ESTHERVILLE — Iowa Lakes Community College is offering two Laker Visit Days, the last ones in 2022, for prospective students on Nov. 10 at the Estherville campus, starting at 1 p.m., and on Nov. 11 at the Emmetsburg campus, starting at 10 a.m.

ILCC announces annual Elizabethan Madrigal Feaste

ESTHERVILLE — Hear ye! Hear ye! The music department at Iowa Lakes Community College announces the 23rd annual Elizabethan Madrigal Feaste. This year's festivities will be held at the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center in Estherville on Dec. 2-3, at 6 p.m. Ticket sales begin Nov. 4.

The Elizabeth Madrigal Feaste pays tribute to the Christmas Feaste, an annual celebration in early England, showcasing an extravagant display of rejoicing and toasting the 12 days of Christmas.

Dozens of Spencer residents turned out at the Spencer Fire Department Sunday to witness the push-in and official blessing of the department’s new fire engine.

Rotary Book Sale begins 5-day run Wednesday night

Spencer Rotary Club 30th Annual five-day Used Book Sale is scheduled for Wednesday through Sunday at the Clay County Regional Events Center. First Choice Party is scheduled from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday from with light appetizers. Admission is $5 and $3 hard covers or $1 paperbacks that night. Thursday and Friday will offer $1 admission from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will be free admission with special reduced book pricing. Hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sioux Rapids man faces felony charges after fleeing police

A Clay County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop Benjamin Schroeder, 40, in the 100 block of West Second Street at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday. Schroeder allegedly fled from the deputy and was located in 200 block of West Second Street. Once located, Schroeder reportedly refused to comply with officers and was placed under arrest. Upon searching Schroeder, marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located.

Outdoors: IGLFC DNR Night set for Nov. 10

The Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club will be hosting its annual fall Department of Natural Reources night at Oak Hill Outdoor located at the north edge of Milford (across the road to the north of Perkins) on Thursday, No. 10. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with pizza at 6 p.m., followed by the DNR presentations at 7 p.m.

Outdoors: Ice fishing open houses set for November

How can an outdoor person get bored here in northwest Iowa? Right now we have hunting seasons going like crazy, the fall fishing is only getting better as the lake water temperatures fall! Oh, but that’s not all. Nope! Because the “pre-ice fishing craze” is just around the corner.

It always comes in November and into December across the Midwest … ice fishing shows such as the Dakota Angler Ice Institute in Sioux Falls (Nov. 11-13) and the St. Paul Ice Show (Dec. 2-4).
