Tiger girls edge Dutch, Harlan at Storm Lake

STORM LAKE — Sunrise Pointe Golf Course in downtown Storm Lake was the sight of a big cross-country meet on Tuesday. The Tigers traveled down to make their mark in the meet. For the varsity girls, it was an impressive performance, with three girls finishing in the top eight. Peyton Morey grabbed a second place finish, clocking a time of 20:30.60. Ivy Hamilton placed fifth once again, running to a time of 21:20.01. Emma Morey finished in eighth place with a time of 21:35.02.

Tigers outlast Rebels in close finish

SIOUX RAPIDS — Spencer traveled to nearby Sioux Rapids on Monday to face off against the Sioux Central Rebels in volleyball. When the game started the home team Rebels caught fire jumping out to a quick 10-0 lead in the first set.

Lakers rebound from weekend tourney, sweep Southwestern

It was only their third ICCAC match of the year but it was obvious from the start that the Lakers understood the implications that their match could have on the Region 11 playoff picture later in the season. The Lakers dominated the Southwestern Community College Spartans in the first two sets 25-8, 25-2, then experienced a major let down in the third set but managed to pull out a 25-23 come from behind win to sweep the match.

Lakers put 5 past Northeast

NORFOLK, Neb. — Iowa Lakes men's soccer team headed to Norfolk, Nebraska, to face Northeast Community College in their final match before Division I conference play commences. In a highly anticipated matchup against a Division II side that had toppled three out of the five Division I teams in the ICCAC, Iowa Lakes imprinted their standard of quality by defeating the Hawks, 5-0.

Gridiron Glance — Week 4

SPENCER (1-1, 0-0) at SIOUX CENTER (1-2, 0-0) — 7 p.m. Friday

After manhandling the Bishop Heelan Crusaders 31-7 on Friday, Spencer will look to extend their winning streak to three game they will hit the road on Friday night to Sioux Center to face off against the Warriors. In last year’s contest, Spencer pulled through in a tough contest, 17-7. Sioux Center comes in at 1-2 on the season losing their last two games.

Tigers roll Crusaders 31-7 for 2nd straight win

SPENCER — From 2008-16 the Tigers only got the best of Bishop Heelan once, losing every other contest to the Crusaders. Since 2017 the tides have turned, as Heelan has yet to defeat Spencer. That wouldn’t change on Friday night, in the first drive of the game the Crusaders marched down the field after Brandon Watts ran in a 29-yard touchdown in the first few minutes of the contest to give Heelan the 7-0 lead.

Cyclone, Hawkeye fans gather at fair

Cognizant of Iowa’s annual Hawkeye-Cyclone game day battle during the Clay County Fair, the red, white and blue covered Dish Plaza hosted a tailgate for fans who found themselves on the grounds while the game was being played. Tigers take 3rd at Mickey Olson Invite

SIOUX CITY — The Spencer girls swimming team traveled to Sioux City West high school on Saturday to compete in the Mickey Olson Invitational. The day was highlighted by two top-three finishes in team events for the Tigers. The team of Mya Miller, Lily Gross, Emily Quanbeck and Brooklyn Ferguson pulled in a second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the same group of girls grabbed a third place finish, clocking a time of 4:05.26.

Rebels win 1st match of season again

GOWRIE — The Rebels have been struggling on the young season, they have been determined to pick up their first win on the campaign. They traveled to Southeast Valley High School on Thursday in a face-off with the Jaguars. The Rebels didn’t just win their first match of the season, they also set a personal and team record.

Rebels lose overtime thriller to Indians

SIOUX RAPIDS — The Sioux Central Rebels were in a barnburner on Friday night when neighboring Pocahontas Area came to Sioux Rapids. Offense was a luxury as defense dominated the game. Kaben Morrow became the quarterback for the night instead of Ethan Mills who has been the primary guy since week one. Mills transitioned over to running back.

Lakers split volleyball at Rochester CTC Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Lakers packed up and headed north Saturday to play matches in Rochester, Minnesota. The Lakers came out and shook off the bus legs right away and jumped up on Rock Valley CC and took a 2-0 lead after two sets. Unfortunately, they could not finish the deal and Rock Valley scratched back to win the match 3-2 (14-25, 15-25, 27-25, 25-9, 15-11).

Coach Mike Turnbull was quick to credit Rock Valley.

Cross fitters climb in memory

Saturday morning, members of Driven712 joined cross fit coaches in a 9/11 stair climb memorial in the bleachers at Dale Norton Field. The participants ran and walked 2,071 steps representing the 110 floors found in each of the World Trade Centers Twin Towers. Driven712 is located at 1520 35th Ave. W. in the west industrial park. Laker volleyball sweep 4 at Anoka-Ramsey

COON RAPIDS — The Iowa Lakes Lakers traveled to Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and swept their four matches on Friday and Saturday. Iowa Lakes opened on Friday with a 3-1 win over Riverland CC (25-10, 25-27, 25-22, 25-22). In the night cap they defeated Ridgewater CC 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-16.
