Spencer loses by 1 stroke

LIVERMORE — Spencer hit the road for a day at the links on Monday at Spring Valley Golf Course. The Tigers battled on the greens with Bishop Garrigan and Humboldt, finishing in second place. The team would shoot a 176, losing to Humboldt who scored a 175. Spencer senior Kaden Miller had the best performance, earning medalist honors after scoring the lowest round in the meet with a 40.

Rebels take 2nd on track

HOLSTEIN — The Sioux Central girls track team traveled to Holstein on Tuesday to compete in the Ridge View Relays. The Rebels would finish in second place, behind only Ridge View.

Lakers sweep No. 6 DMACC

The Iowa Lakes Community College softball team earned two big wins over the No. 6 DMACC Bears. The Lakers won 6-5 on a walk-off single in game one and then won game two 7-6. The Lakers are now 19-9 overall and 6-6 in conference.

Merchant, Heisinger win events for Spencer

MANKATO, Minn. — After waiting out the winter weather early Saturday morning, Spencer made its way to the Minnesota State Varsity Showcase. Competing against some of the best girls from Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Tiger girls would finish in third place at the showcase.

Tiger girls split games in Council Bluffs

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The quest to return back to state began on Saturday for the Spencer girls soccer team. Traveling to Council Bluffs to compete against Underwood and Treynor. The girls would split their two games, dropping the first one to Underwood 2-0, before dominating Treynor 5-0.

Spencer guys finish 3rd in Mankato

MANKATO, Minn. — Spencer traveled north to Minnesota State on Saturday. The team would take third place at the event. The best finish for the Tiger boys came from the 4x200-meter relay team. Miles Robbins, Campbell Wessels, Gavin Timmer and Jack Berends finished in second place in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:33.62. The best solo performance came from Robbins in the 60-meter dash. Robbins showed off the speed, finishing in second with a time of 7.17.

Tigers fall to Heelan 3-2

SIOUX CITY — The beginning of a new soccer season got started on Thursday. The Spencer boys traveled to Sioux City to face off with the Bishop Heelan Crusaders. Spencer would drop its opening game 3-2, it's the first Crusader victory over the Tigers in boys soccer since 2019.

Ever since I moved to northwest Iowa in 1978, I’ve participated in the annual walleye opener on three lakes on the Iowa Great Lakes: Big Spirit, East Okoboji and West Okoboji. Each year, the walleye season closes on those lakes in mid-February and does not reopen until the first Saturday in May. These are the only waters in the state of Iowa with this regulation. Tigersharks high points winners and record breakers

SPENCER — After a very successful year, the Spencer Tigersharks wrapped up their season with some record-breaking performances. Multiple kids broke meet records during the three championship meets.

"The Tigersharks had a very successful season this year, finishing second in their division at the state swim meet, losing by three points to Bedell," head coach Sandy Holck said.

48 Tigersharks medaled this season

SPENCER — The Tigersharks completed their season 2022-23 season, 48 members medaled at the three state competitions this season.

Merchant sets USD Indoor 60-meter hurdle record

VERMILLION, S.D. — Spencer hit the road on Monday morning, traveling to Vermillion, South Dakota, to compete at the Dan Lennon High School Track and Field Meet. Spencer claimed three first place finishes at the University of South Dakota.

Tigers 4x200 team grabs first at USD Indoor

VERMILLION, S.D. — Heading out-of-state to South Dakota, the Spencer boys track team participated in the Dan Lennon Relays. The 4x200-meter relay team of Miles Robbins, Campbell Wessels, Gavin Timmer and Blaine Erdman took the top spot in the race. The group clocked a time of 1:35.98. Outrunning second place in Le Mars, the victory would be the only one for Spencer at the meet.

Lakers place top 10 twice at ACUI College Nationals

Nine athletes from the Iowa Lakes sports shooting team traveled to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in two trap events. The ACUI/SCTP College National Shoot was held at the National Shooting Complex from March 21-25. This year was the second largest College Nationals ever held with 741 athletes from 73 teams competing in the American Trap Singles Event.
