Rebels lose final game 28-6 to Alta-Aurelia

SIOUX RAPIDS — On a special Thursday night the Sioux Central Rebels hosted the Alta-Aurelia Warriors in the final game of the season between the two on the football field. The Warriors dominated Sioux Central through the air, Alta QB Cale Brechwald completed 12 of 26 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. Including a 20-point outburst in the fourth quarter to lead the Warriors to victory. Alta-Aurelia would pick up a 29-6 win over the Rebels to pick up their third win of the season.

Rebel boys take 2nd to advance to state

HOLSTEIN — Sioux Central’s cross-country season has been a successful one to say the least, especially for the boys side of the sport. The Rebels competed in Holstein Thursday for a chance to advance to state as a team.

Lakers travel to Dakota State University

ESTHERVILLE — The Iowa Lakes volleyball team begins the most important week of the season on the road. The Lakers competed in the Dakota State University Triangular Monday and will end the squad’s regular season at NIACC on Wednesday for their final ICCAC showdown. On Saturday the Lakers will be in the Region XI Tournament playing at 1 p.m. versus a yet to be determined opponent and location.

Tigers take on district at Humboldt

HUMBOLDT — Spencer traveled a little over an hour south to compete at Joe Sheldon Park in Humboldt on Wednesday in districts for cross-country.

“We knew going in that it was going to be tough,” Spencer coach Valerie Hamilton said. “We were one of five ranked teams with each of these five teams being ranked as high as seventh at some point throughout the season.”

Tiger season ends in Humboldt Tuesday

HUMBOLDT — Spencer’s season hung in the balance on Tuesday when the volleyball girls traveled to Humboldt to face off against the Wildcats in the first round of postseason play. Unfortunately for the Tigers, it would be their last game of the season, losing to Humboldt in three straight sets. Spencer would drop the first set to the Wildcats in a close battle 25-22. Humboldt would have control all night long, winning set two 25-18.

Tigers host Senior Night at YMCA

SPENCER — It was Senior Night at the Spencer YMCA on Tuesday, when the Tiger swimming team hosted the Sioux City Metro. Spencer has battled with this team at various meets, many different times. The Tigers would fall to the Metro 111-59 on the night.

Iowa Lakes men’s basketball ranked 14th in preseason poll

ESTHERVILLE — The Iowa Lakes men's basketball team debuted at No. 14 in the 2022-23 Preseason National Junior College Athletic Association Men's Basketball Rankings. The Lakers are one of four Iowa Community College Athletic Conference teams ranked joining No. 9 DMACC, No. 17 Ellsworth and No. 18 Kirkwood. Defending National Champion South Suburban is ranked No. 1.

Lakers battle No. 7 Tritons

The Iowa Lakes Lakers match the No. 7 Tritons did not disappoint, the two teams going swing for swing, serve for serve and block for block for three sets before Iowa Central took over and won the fourth set in the match 3-1, 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-13.

Coach Mike Turnbull indicated he was proud of the growth and maturity that his squad showed throughout the match.

Rebels season over thanks to Indians

POCAHONTAS — Sioux Central traveled down to Pocahontas on Monday night to face the Indians in the first round of the volleyball regional. The Indians would get the better of the Rebels in three sets, including a set one thrilling finish with Pocahontas defeating Sioux Central 27-25. The Indians won set two 25-17 before finally closing out the Rebels 25-22 in the third and final set.

Lakers men’s basketball alumni game Oct. 29

ESTHERVILLE — The Iowa Lakes athletics department has announced the start time for this year's Iowa Lakes men's basketball versus alumni game on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Gridiron Glance — Week 9

SPENCER (6-2, 3-1) at STORM LAKE (0-8, 0-4) — 7 p.m. Friday

After a disappointing loss last week at the hands of Le Mars, Spencer comes into this week with full control of their future. If they take care of business Friday night in Storm Lake, the Class 4A District 1 crown is in their possession. Allowing Spencer to host a first round playoff game at Dale Norton Field.

Not their night: Tigers fail to secure district crown, lose at Le Mars 38-28

LE MARS — A few too many mistakes, along with a horrible end to the first half sealed the fate for the Spencer Tigers on Friday night in Le Mars. Every fifty-fifty ball went the way of the Bulldogs, including a pick six and scoop and score to push the host squad in front 35-14 going into the break. It was definitely a tale of two different halves for the Tigers as they battled the whole way, falling a few plays sort of the rally.

Tigers win one Saturday at Algona Tourney

ALGONA — On Saturday the Spencer volleyball team traveled for their last regular season games in Algona at the Algona tournament. Spencer would face Algona, Lake Mills, Gladbrook Reinbeck, Forest City and Saint Edmonds. They would only pull out one victory on the day against the St. Edmonds. The girls would get shut out in three of the matches not winning a set. Losing 2-0 to Forest City, Algona and Gladbrook Reinbeck.

Rebels go 2-2 over week

LAKE CITY — On Thursday, the Sioux Central Rebels volleyball team traveled to Lake City to face off in a triangular against South Central Calhoun and Newell-Fonda. It wouldn’t fare well for the Rebels on Thursday night, they would lose both games 3-0 to the Titans and Mustangs.

Rebels whacked by Falcons 68-0

HAWARDEN — It was not a night to remember for the Sioux Central Rebels who traveled an hour and a half to face off against the best team in the Class 1A-1 District in the 6-1 West Sioux Falcons who are undefeated in the district at 4-0. Sioux Central was looking to pick up their first district win of the season, that would not be the case on Friday night.

Rebel boys win Twin Lakes, girls place 5th

GOWRIE — Sioux Central cross-country has been having a successful season on both sides, picking up multiple wins during the regular season. On Saturday, it was time to put together the best times in the Twin Lakes Conference. It was another successful day for the Rebels as the varsity boys would take home conference champion honors.
