Rebels whacked by Falcons 68-0

HAWARDEN — It was not a night to remember for the Sioux Central Rebels who traveled an hour and a half to face off against the best team in the Class 1A-1 District in the 6-1 West Sioux Falcons who are undefeated in the district at 4-0. Sioux Central was looking to pick up their first district win of the season, that would not be the case on Friday night.

Rebel boys win Twin Lakes, girls place 5th

GOWRIE — Sioux Central cross-country has been having a successful season on both sides, picking up multiple wins during the regular season. On Saturday, it was time to put together the best times in the Twin Lakes Conference. It was another successful day for the Rebels as the varsity boys would take home conference champion honors.

Lakers battle No. 7 Tritons

The Iowa Lakes Lakers match the No. 7 Tritons did not disappoint, the two teams going swing for swing, serve for serve and block for block for three sets before Iowa Central took over and won the fourth set in the match 3-1, 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-13.

Coach Mike Turnbull indicated he was proud of the growth and maturity that his squad showed throughout the match.

TWICE IS NICE: Tiger girls and boys win Lakes Conference Meet

ESTHERVILLE — On Monday the Spencer girls and boys cross-country teams traveled to Estherville to compete in the Lakes Conference. Both groups have been battling all year for the Tigers. For Spencer and it’s runners it was a night to remember as the boys and girls would take home the Lakes Conference championship in cross-country.

Tiger JV softball champions

The Spencer Tiger JV softball team completed their fall season at Storm Lake, the girls would defeat the Storm Lake Tornadoes 10-1 and Sioux Central 10-3 on their way to a championship. Tigers lose to Warriors on Tuesday

ARMSTRONG — On Tuesday, Spencer traveled to face off against the North Union Warriors. This is the last regular season week for the Tigers as they look to finish strong on an unsuccessful regular season, before heading into regional play next week. Spencer came out strong in the first set taking an early lead, the Warriors would battle back before snagging set one from the Tigers 25-21.

Tigers swim twice during week

SPENCER — Monday was the second home meet of the season for the Spencer Tiger girls swim team at the Spencer YMCA. The meet would be against the Sioux City Metro and Algona teams. The girls would come in second place behind Sioux City Metro and would dominate Algona.

Softball Academy allowing sign ups until first day

ESTHERVILLE — The Iowa Lakes softball team will be hosting a four-week Softball Academy for athletes in kindergarten through 12th grades. The 2022-23 Softball Academy will be held on four Sundays, Oct. 16 and 23, and Nov. 6 and 13, at the Christensen Building on the Estherville campus.

WEBSTER CITY — A clash that more than lived up to the hype, Friday night fans on both sides of the field witnessed a high school football game which seemed more like a 15-round heavyweight championship fight with both competitors throwing knockout blows which were sustained and answered until one team was left standing when the final bell sounded.

Spencer basketball programs hosting 3 on 3 league

This fall the middle school and high school basketball programs at Spencer are hosting a 3 on 3 league on Sundays. Fifth and sixth graders will have the Spencer High School gym from 4-5 p.m. The high schoolers will take it over until 6 p.m. and then finally the seventh and eighth graders will have the gym for the final session from 7-8 p.m. This will be taking place on each Sunday until Nov. 6.

Tigers win triangular at Carroll

CARROLL — Spencer traveled to Carroll on Thursday night for a matchup in the pool with Carroll and Fort Dodge. Spencer would finish in second place during the competition behind the Fort Dodge Dodgers, losing by 10 points in the team score.

“We had a great meet,” Spencer coach Amie Lawrence said. “Many close events and again some new best times. We are progressing nicely and continue to drop time, we will continue to work hard as we work towards regionals.”

Rebels defeat Panthers on Thursday

SIOUX RAPIDS ― The Sioux Central volleyball team hosted neighboring Storm Lake St. Mary’s Thursday night. The Rebels were looking to pick up their fourth win of this season that hasn’t quite went the way they would have liked.

Rebels run off field by Wolfpack

SIOUX RAPIDS — The Sioux Central Rebels were looking for their third win of the season on Friday night when the Western Christian Wolfpack came in for homecoming. The Wolfpack were searching for their fifth win of the season, coming off a 45-0 dominating performance last week against the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals.

Lakers go 3-1 at NIACC Tournament

MASON CITY — The Iowa Lakes volleyball team traveled to Mason City on Friday for a two day tournament. On Friday the Lakers defeated Ellsworth and NIACC to push their win streak to 10 in a row. They dispatched of the Ellsworth Panthers 3-1 (25-17, 25-9, 20-25, 25-12). In the last match of the evening the Lakers faced off with the Trojans for the third time this year and winning for the third time in those nonconference matchups.

Tigers lose final conference game to Indians

SPIRIT LAKE — Spencer traveled to neighboring Spirit Lake on Tuesday night in hopes to pick up a conference win against the Indians. The girls were looking to bounce back after getting dismantled by the Cherokee-Washington Braves in their last outing.
