Tigers dominate Storm Lake

ANKENY — After defeating the Tornadoes Friday, Spencer had to rise and shine to head to the Dave Ewing Team Duals in Ankeny Saturday. The Tigers would finish in fourth place as a team, defeating Sioux City North 61-18. Spencer would drop their duals against Ankeny, Independence and Bondurant-Farrar.

Tigers finish in 8th at Lewis Central

COUNCIL BLUFFS — Spencer competed in their biggest competition so far this year Saturday at the Lewis Central Winter Invitational. Reid Tigges picked up a win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.81. Tigges also placed third in the 100-yard backstroke competition with a time of 57.35. The team would finish in eighth place with 109 team points.

Tigers lose both games over weekend

NEWELL — Spencer had two big games over the weekend facing the Western Christian Wolfpack and Newell-Fonda Mustangs. Spencer would drop both games, by a combined 65 points. Losing to Western Christian, 70-39 and Newell-Fonda 63-39 to drop to 4-7 on the season.

Cham finishes 2nd to lead Rebels at Spencer Invite

SPENCER — The Rebel girls traveled north up Highway 71 Saturday to compete at the Spencer Middle School at the Spencer Tournament. This would be the Rebels final competition before heading to the Tyson’s Event Center Friday to compete in the Iowa Girls High School Wrestling Region Tournament. The Rebels would finish in eighth place in Spencer, led by Odola Cham who finished in second place winning three of her four matches on the day.

Rebels defeat Titans 72-52 Saturday

ROCKWELL CITY — Sioux Central traveled to face off against South Central Calhoun Saturday. The Titans led the Rebels in a slim 16-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, the second period was all Sioux Central. Outscoring the Titans 25-8, that would be the deciding factor. The Rebels would win 72-52. Sioux Central scored 33 points in the second half to the Titans' 28.

Rebels dominate Titans 84-55

ROCKWELL CITY — Undefeated Sioux Central traveled to South Central Calhoun for a game with the 10-1 Titans Saturday. The Rebels got off to a hot start scoring 17 first quarter points, leading by six after one. Sioux Central extended the lead to 12 at halftime. They would cruise to a 84-55 victory over South Central Calhoun.

"I could not be prouder of this team came out, competed and played with a toughness and an edge for four quarters,” head coach Stephen Tjaden said.

Rotary supports SHS After Prom, Tigerettes’ performance

During its recent 75th anniversary celebration at Century Farms Distillery in Spencer, the local Rotary club presented a check to the SHS After Prom committee for $300. Rotary also sponsored the Tailtwisters SHS Tigerettes halftime performances, for $600, during the recent Spencer boys and girls basketball games. (Photos submitted)

Laker ladies dest NIACC by 5

The Iowa Lakes women's basketball team defeated NIACC on the road 53-48. The Lakers were led by Brielle Bartelt with 22 points, Ihari Oromo added nine points and eight rebounds. The Lakers are 10-8 on the season and 4-3 in conference play. The Lakers return to action Jan. 21 as they travel to Kirkwood to take on No. 3 Kirkwood at 1 p.m. The Lakers return to play at home on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 5:30 p.m against Ellsworth.


Tigers host first home meet of the year

SPENCER — Spencer field house was electric on Tuesday night for the first Spencer Tiger girls wrestling home meet this season. Spencer hosted MOC-Floyd Valley and Le Mars, they would dominate the Dutchmen 54-18. But they would lose to the Bulldogs in a close one 39-34.

Tigers rout 8th-ranked Braves

CHEROKEE — Spencer hit the road Tuesday to compete against the eighth-ranked Cherokee-Washington Braves. The girls got out to a fast start, leading the Braves 20-4 after the first quarter. 32-13 was the difference at halftime. Spencer continued their dominance, routing Cherokee 67-36 for their ninth win of the season. Jerra Merchant led the team in scoring with 24 points in the big victory.

Tigers dominate Le Mars, Dutchmen on the mat

SPENCER — On Tuesday, Spencer hosted MOC-Floyd Valley and Le Mars for duals. The boys absolutely put on a clinic for the home crowd. Picking up two big dual wins on the night.

Tigers finish in 3rd at Boone

BOONE — Spencer traveled on Tuesday to compete against the Boone Toreadors and the Carroll Tigers in boys swimming. The boys would finish in third place as a team. Reid Tigges continues to dominate the 50 and 100-freestyle races, picking up two more victories in the meet. Tigges clocked a 21.90 in the 50 and 49.00 in the 100-competition.

Tigers down Braves 73-52

CHEROKEE — Spencer looked to get back on track after dropping its past few games. The boys headed to Cherokee and picked up a win, routing the Braves 73-52. In the first half Spencer outscored Cherokee 31-19, in the second half the Tigers outscored the Braves 42-33 to pick up their fourth win of the season.

Rebels finish in 8th at East Sac County

SAC CITY — Sioux Central traveled to East Sac County on Tuesday to compete in the schools tournament. Three girl wrestlers finished in runner-up or better. Hannah Illg-Keith grabbed a first place finish, pinning Emma Daniels of Carroll in the first round to grab the win. Makala Zeka finished in second place, Zeka would lose to Kyla Egli of Manson Northwest-Webster with a pin in the third round.

Rebels down E-Hawks by 31

EMMETSBURG — Sioux Central looked to keep their three game winning streak alive at Twin Lakes Conference foe Emmetsburg Tuesday. The Rebel defense held the E-Hawks to just 11 at halftime. Sioux Central scored 24 at the break. They would outscore Emmetsburg 37-19 in the second half to pick up a big 61-30 win.

Rebels down Emmetsburg 70-44

EMMETSBURG — The Rebel boys basketball team took on the Emmetsburg E-Hawks Tuesday. Sioux Central picked up their sixth conference win and 12th overall to stay undefeated on the season. The Rebels dominated Emmetsburg 70-44.
