Tiger Senior Night celebrated against Sioux City West

SPENCER — The Spencer boys swimming team had their final home meet of the season hosting Sioux City West. Spencer would lose to the Sioux City Spartans 122-32. Senior Night also took place. Quinn Baker, Paul Conover, Reid Tigges, Sam Feldman, Owen Kierscht and Colin Boyd were all recognized for their athletic dedication to the swimming program.

Tigers' 4th quarter comeback not enough against ELC

SPENCER — The Tigers got their week started hosting the Estherville Lincoln-Central Midgets in the Spencer field house on Tuesday. The Midgets got off to a good start, leading the Tigers 27-16 at halftime. The second half was an uphill battle for Spencer, but they didn’t back down. The boys outscored Estherville 32-22 in the final two quarters but would come up short losing 49-48 to the Midgets.

Rebels dominate Titans, Indians on the mat

SIOUX RAPIDS — Sioux Central’s girls wrestling team got back on the mat hosting the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titans and Spirit Lake Park Indians. The Rebels made history, winning two duals in one night for the first time in its girls wrestling program. The girls would dominate Spirit Lake Park 39-6 and defeat the Titans 30-18.

Rebels fall to No. 2-ranked Mustangs

NEWELL — Sioux Central traveled to Newell on Tuesday to face off against the No. 2-ranked Class 1A team in Newell-Fonda. The Mustangs got out to a 41-16 lead at halftime and never looked back, beating the Rebels 66-50.

Rebels win 1 of 2 duals on Tuesday

SIOUX RAPIDS — Sioux Central hosted Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and Spirit Lake Park on the mat Tuesday night. For the boys they were able to come away with a win, defeating the Indians 42-36. The Rebels would lose to the Titans 57-18.

NEWELL — Sioux Central traveled south on Tuesday night to face off against the Newell-Fonda Mustangs in a showdown of undefeated teams. It was a closely contested battle all the way through, the Rebels pulled through defeating the Mustangs 72-66 to improve to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference. Jacob Hargens led the way for Sioux Central with 34 points and 11 rebounds in the six-point win.

GTRA/Spencer Bulls Eyes Trap team raffle winners

The GTRA/Spencer Bulls Eyes Trap Team held a raffle this fall to help raise funds for supplies needed by the team for the spring season. Dan Stumpf, from Fonda, had his name drawn first and had the choice of two rifles. He chose the Henry Golden Boy rifle. Jake Schneider, from Ruthven, was the second name drawn and received the Henry Classic rifle. The Bulls Eyes appreciate everyone who purchased tickets in support of the youth athletes.

Jaycox receives Club Manager of the Year

ALTOONA — Spencer Golf and Country Club manager Deb Jaycox was selected as the Iowa Golf Association Club Manager of the Year. Jaycox accepted the award at the annual Iowa Golf Association Banquet in Altoona in November.

“When I first found out about this award I was very overwhelmed and humbled,” Jaycox said. “I couldn't really believe it.

Lakers fall to No. 5 Iowa Western

The Iowa Lakes women's basketball team fell to No. 5 Iowa Western, 61-71. The Lakers were led by Makayla Holton (above) with 18 points and Jasmine Jones with 14 points.mThe Lakers are 8-8 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. The Lakers return to play at home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. against William Penn JV.


ILCC men remain perfect in ICCAC play

Huckfelt takes 1st place at Ogden

OGDEN — Spencer hit the road on Saturday to compete in a wrestling tournament in Ogden. The girls were looking to start 2023 off right, placing fifth out of 31 teams in the tournament. Olivia Huckfelt led the way, dominating the day, picking up three falls en route to a 235 championship win. Kaylee Nachtigal grabbed a runner-up finish in the 190 pound class, Nachtigal picked up a fall, and a sudden victory, before losing in the championship match to Mackenzie Arends of Nevada High School.

Tiger girls stay undefeated in Spirit Lake

SPIRIT LAKE — The undefeated Spencer Tiger girls basketball team rolled north into Spirit Lake on Thursday for a matchup with the neighboring Indians. The girls have prided themselves in forcing turnovers and turning them into easy baskets. Defense played another huge factor in the Tigers 56-44 win over Spirit Lake.

Tigers pick up 2 dual wins in Estherville

AMES — On Saturday, Spencer traveled to Ames to compete in the Jack Mendenhall Invitational. Spencer would finish in 12th place in the competition. Logan Huckfelt had the best performance, scoring a runner-up finish and losing his first match of the season to Kyler Hall of Ames.

Tigges sets 2 meet records in Waterloo

WATERLOO — Spencer hit the road, heading to Waterloo for their first meet of 2023. Competing in the West Wahawk Invitational at Waterloo East High School. Reid Tigges led the way for the Tigers, winning the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events for Spencer. Tigges put together a time of 22.17 in the 50 and 49.09 in the 100-yard for the first place finishes. Spencer would finish in fourth place as a team behind Decorah, Vinton-Shellsburg and Newton.

Tigers win Lakes Conference thriller against Indians

SPIRIT LAKE — The first Lakes Conference matchup for the Tigers took place in neighboring Spirit Lake Thursday. Spencer looking to bounce back after Christmas break, found a way to pull it out. Riley DeWitt had the game winning bucket, driving to the basket and putting it through the net. Spencer would win 66-64, picking up their first conference win of the season.

Rebels sweep 3-game week

The Rebel girls basketball team had a busy week, playing three games in as many days. Sioux Central had a successful campaign, dominating Ridge View and Storm Lake St. Mary’s. They also defeated West Bend-Mallard to improve to 6-3 on the season.



Rebels drop 3 duals at Sheldon

SHELDON — Sioux Central traveled to Sheldon on Saturday to compete in the Orab Duals. The Rebels would finish in fourth place on the day, being led by Kaben Morrow and Keagen Riley who both went 3-0 on the day with three falls each. Sheldon/South O’Brien defeated the Rebels 54-18. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton of Minnesota defeated Sioux Central 72-12 in their dual. Storm Lake defeated the Rebels 57-24 in their dual competition.
