5 Rebels take top spot at Eagle Grove

EAGLE GROVE — Sioux Central hit the road on Monday to compete in a round robin tournament at Eagle Grove. The Rebel girls wrestling team had a successful night, five girls were crowned champion of their weight class in the tournament. Nichole Hart went 3-0 to win the 115-pound class. Makala Zeka dominated the 120 class. Odola Cham, Jazzmin Deshazer and Hannah Illg Keith all took first place.

5 Tigers crowned champion at SBL Invite

SIOUX CITY — Spencer got their week going with a trip to Sioux City Monday. The girls competed in the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Girls Invitational. The Tigers were able to win five classes. Atalia Rosales, Kailee Spencer, Shaylee Sutherland, Laila Nielsen and Olivia Huckfelt.

All of this girls have been having stellar starts to the season.

Joshlynn Johnson was actually defeated by Rosales in the championship match. Kyiah Logan was also runner up in the 125 pound class.

Tigers' huge 3rd quarter results in win

SPENCER — The Spencer Tiger girls basketball team looked to continue its undefeated start to the young season against Emmetsburg Monday. Thanks to a dominant third quarter, Spencer picked up a 53-33 win over the E-Hawks.

Carroll wins battle of the Tigers over Spencer

SPENCER — The local YMCA was filled with boys swimming fans in the battle of the Tigers on Tuesday. Spencer and Carroll competed in the first home meet for the Tigers on the year. Carroll would defeat Spencer 99-70 in the meet.

Olson leads late rally, Tigers down E-Hawks

SPENCER — Emmetsburg’s boys basketball team made its way to Spencer Monday night for varsity basketball action with the Tigers. Both squads were looking for their first wins of this young season. Spencer would pull ahead late after a super close fourth quarter and grab the 56-51 win.

Rebel girls defeat Warriors 49-40

SIOUX RAPIDS — Alta-Aurelia made the trip to Sioux Rapids Monday to compete against the Rebels in girls hoops. A dominating fourth quarter performance on defense propelled Sioux Central to a 49-40 win over the Warriors.

Rebels throttle Warriors 91-58

SIOUX RAPIDS ― Sioux Central hosted the Alta-Aurelia Warriors on Tuesday night, fresh off their 11-point victory over Spencer on Saturday. The Rebels would settle in and dominate Alta-Aurelia 91-58.

Tigers lose opening meet at Sioux City

SIOUX CITY — After having their meet canceled on Tuesday with Carroll, the Spencer Tiger boys swimming team traveled to Sioux City to face off against the Sioux City Spartans. Spencer would fall short of a win on opening night losing 140-30 on the night.

Piercy’s record-setting night leads Tigers over Rebels

SPENCER — The neighboring Sioux Central Rebels came to Spencer field house on Saturday for a game of girls hoops. Spencer hadn’t played in almost two weeks after thanksgiving break and losing a game due to inclement weather. Jada Piercy got the crowd rocking early, knocking down four 3-pointers in the first quarter to kickstart the Tigers. Mo McDermott had the other hot hand for Spencer, scoring the other six points in the beginning period.

Tigers dominate double dual with GT/RA, Okoboji

SPENCER — Thursday night was an electric atmosphere at the Spencer field house for the annual boys wrestling double dual with Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and Okoboji. The Tigers would pick up two wins defeating GT/RA 54-18 and Okoboji 54-20 to get their season kicked off.

Tigers finish 4th in Sioux City over weekend

SIOUX CITY — After dominating Okoboji and GT/RA on Thursday, Spencer would go on the road on Saturday to compete in Sioux City, at the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Invitational. Logan Huckfelt would have a big day, picking up his 100th career win and winning the heavyweight class. The returning state qualifier put on a show on Saturday, picking up four falls. The longest match Huckfelt competed in lasted a minute and twenty seconds.

Hargens outdoes Olson Saturday

SPENCER — It was a local showdown between the Spencer Tigers and the Sioux Central Rebels on Saturday evening. A scoring spectacle was put on display by Jacob Hargens of Sioux Central and Owen Olson for Spencer. Hargens put on a show in a 38 point double-double with 11 rebounds to go with it. Olson would light up the Rebels beyond the arc, knocking down eight 3-pointers for the Tigers. Olson would end up with 35.

7 Tiger wrestlers take 1st at Okoboji

MILFORD — Sioux Central and Spencer girls wrestling teams traveled north to Milford to compete in the Okoboji Invitational Friday. It was a very successful day for the Tigers with seven girls taking first place in their weight divisions. Atalia Rosales, Kailee Spencer, Lily Sanchez, Shaylee Sutherland, Laila Nielsen, Kiersten Campbell and Olivia Huckfelt all grabbed the top spot.

Iowa Lakes down Iowa Central by 11

The Iowa Lakes men's basketball team defeated Iowa Central, 69-58, to move to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play.

Jeremiah Burke led the way for the Lakers with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Anthony Holden added 11 points and seven rebounds, and Isaiah Williams had 11 points as well. Sam West chipped in with 12 rebounds.

Lakers win conference opener

The Iowa Lakes women's basketball team defeated Iowa Central, 58-41, Saturday, led by Emma Kanz (above) with a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jasmine Jones also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Brielle Bartelt added 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Iowa Lakes dance team brings home 3rd in the state

DES MOINES — The Iowa Lakes Community College Dance Team (left to right) Brenna Andrews, Macy Alderson, Adelee Reinhardt, Liz Peta and Katlynn Jepsen finished third in community college pom at the Iowa State Dance Team Championship in Des Moines. The Lakers competed against seven other community colleges on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Wells Fargo Arena. The Laker dance team is currently recruiting for its 2023-24 season.
