Iowa Lakes outshoots Southwestern

The Iowa Lakes sports shooting team shot 453x500 to 364x400 against Southwestern Community College. The rain finally stopped but it was cloudy and cold when the shooting started at the Palo Alto Gun Club at Sportsman's Park north of Cylinder on Saturday, Oct. 14. The top five shooters for the Lakers were: Taylor Shiflett 93, Kendall Umscheid 93, Cameron Fick 92, Wyatt Schwenker 88, and Boden Paullin 87.

Lakers close out regular season, down WIT, 6-1

Iowa Lakes men's soccer hosted Western Iowa Tech on Wednesday, winning 6-1. The Lakers honored the team’s graduating sophomores on what was their last regular season match of the season.

The Lakers started the scoring in the eighth minute when Emilio Cazares found the back of the net when he broke through on goal on a pass by Gabriel Miranda. The Lakers created many more quality chances in the first half but failed to convert them.

He and his team manage public fishing waters in Clay, Emmet, Dickinson, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth and Sioux counties.

Deja vu

A combination of less than favorable weather conditions and a hungry Spencer defense set the Tigers up for some early scores, reaching the end zone three times in a 2 1/2-minute span in the first quarter. They put up 40 first half points and tacked on 21-0 more in the final two quarters for a 61-0 win at Dale Norton Field.

It marked the second straight 60-plus-point contest and second win in a row as the purple and gold played their final home game of the season.

Rebel runners claim second in TLC

ALTA — Both the girls and boys programs at Sioux Central ran to runner-up finishes in the Twin Lakes Conference meet Saturday at Alta Golf & Country Club. The boys finished second to Class 2A eighth-ranked East Sac County, 47-33, and the Rebel girls found themselves to short of Class 1A ninth-ranked Alta-Aurelia, 40-65.

ILCC women roll Marshalltown 18-0

MARSHALLTOWN — The Iowa Lakes Lakers women secured their seventh triumph of the season, putting on a stellar display against Marshalltown.

Their impressive performance in October has solidified their position as a formidable contender to watch out for in the playoffs.

Maria Vilhena scored five goals on 14 shots on goal; and teammate Cameran Renneke and Isabel Hernandez Diaz each recorded hat tricks both recorded hat tricks in the lopsided victory.

Iowa Lakes take down NIACC in 4

MASON CITY — Iowa Lakes’ volleyball team traveled to Mason City for a third rematch with North Iowa Area Community College. NIACC ended up taking the match in four.

Laker men make it 4 straight at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN — Iowa Lakes men's soccer visited Marshalltown on Saturday, winning 2-1, to make it four straight wins. The scoring started in the 35th minute when Keiji Sugiura found Garbhan Feeney on the left flank for a brilliant goal. Garbhan took on his defender and cut inside to place the bending ball in the far upper 90 of the goal.

Sioux Central unable to snag playoff spot

WALL LAKE — Win and you’re in.

Those were the stakes of Friday night’s district matchup between Sioux Central and East Sac County. Although the Rebels held an advantage statistically, ESC captured the only statistic which mattered in the end, the final score, 13-6.

Ferguson, Gross lead Spencer at Fender invite

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The competition was tough at the LC Melissa Fender Memorial Invitational swim meet, Saturday, in Council Bluffs. Host Lewis Central edged runner-up Sioux City Metro, with the Spencer Tiger girls coming in a distant fourth out of five teams, despite a strong showing in a few events.

“The swimmers had a good meet today and we had some great swims,” Spencer coach Amie Lawrence said.

BACK-TO-BACK

Peyton Morey and Adalyn Schoelerman finished one-two, Alexandria Palmer crossed fourth, and Ava Morey and Sadie Kahley broke the top 15 to help Spencer to a Lake Conference girls cross-country championship Monday.

Likewise, Van Munson paced the Tiger boys, completing the Spencer Municipal Golf course, in sixth place, with teammates Nolan McCusker and Rylei Koppie ran within a second of one another in seventh and eight to complete the Lakes sweep for the boy’s.
