Lorraine Lamport
November 21, 1928 — May 3, 2024
Private graveside services for Lorraine Lamport, 95, of Spencer, will be conducted by the family at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Lamport passed away May 3, 2024, at St. Luke Lutheran Home.
Lorraine Marie (Winkler) Lamport was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away in Spencer, Iowa on May 3, 2024, at the age of 95.
Lorraine, the daughter of A.J. and Mathilda Winkler, was born on November 21, 1928, in Herron Lake, Minnesota. She received her grammar school education in Minnesota and later graduated from Cathedral High School in Sioux City, Iowa. On May 27, 1950, she married Bruce Lamport and subsequently moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1958.
Lorraine worked for Farm Bureau Insurance in Spencer for 30 years and retired in 1993. After she retired, she volunteered with many organizations in the Spencer area including Time, Treasure, and Talents (TTT) and RSVP (AmeriCorps Senior Network). She loved both of these organizations and strove to further their principles throughout the greater Spencer area.
She was instrumental in planning and organizing the annual TTT Spencer Area Garage Sale. Those who knew her will remember the countless hours she spent gathering materials, securing locations, coordinating signs, and planning the execution of the event every year. Proceeds from the event were later used to sponsor local youth programs including sending girls to summer camp.
She also led the effort to organize and construct the TTT Pretzel Stand (later the TTT Churro Stand) at the Clay County Fairgrounds. Joining her later in this effort were her husband Bruce and friends Mr. and Mrs. Carl Poulsen. The stand can still be found at the fairgrounds every fall, a testament to her sisterhood in TTT and involvement in the Spencer community.
Lorraine, though, will not only be remembered for the impact she made in Spencer and the surrounding area but also for the mark she left on those closest to her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren could always count on a cursive, handwritten card at holidays and birthdays. Even with twenty-three of them to remember, she never missed a date.
The Catholic faith was also a constant in Lorraine’s life. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Spencer and remained active for all of her 30 years in the community.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Bruce and her siblings, Dorothy, Robert, Rita, Mary Ann, Raymond, and Leo.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters Lynda (Louis) Lamport, Kay Lamport, Nancy (Jim) Sieh, and son William (Rochelle) Lamport, her eight grandchildren, Chad, Kelly, Caitlyn, Laura, Luke, Matt, Elizabeth, and Sierra, her great-grandchildren Elena, Elise, Bobby, Andy, Jude, Kelly, Ben, Briley, Quinn, Avie, Emery, AnaJane, Brinley, Heidi, and Lily.
A private service will be held for the family at a later date. Friends of Lorraine may contact Warner Funeral Home for memorial information. Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
