Lincoln students celebrate token achievement

Lincoln Elementary celebrated its second overall Tiger Token goal reaching 11,000 tokens. To celebrate the students got to enjoy popcorn and a snack while watching a movie. The Parent-Teacher Organization donated the popcorn. (Photo submitted)

Kiwanis trick or treat for UNICEF

The Spencer Middle School Builders Club and High School Key Club went trick-or-treating for UNICEF and donations for the Spencer Middle School food pantry on Sunday, Oct. 22. They raised over $200 for UNICEF and filled the pantry with food and hygiene products. After collecting donations, the kids had a Halloween Party at Axoholics. $3.5 million-plus Last-Dollar Scholarships awarded to ILCC students

ESTHERVILLE — The Future Ready Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship has proven to be a game changer for students at Iowa Lakes, with over $3.5 million in scholarships awarded since the program's beginning. During the fall 2023 term, Iowa Lakes students received an impressive $374,800 in scholarship aid from the program.

Festival of Lessons and Carols: The Christmas story in verse and song

The Spencer Messiah Board welcomes everyone to join them for this year's Festival of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. The Festival of Lessons and Carols is presented by the board for the benefit of the community by area singers.

The Kruse side of my family lineage is German. Having explored the German countryside it became very apparent how important that fences are to their perception of defining property borders. Their home is their castle and every castle, regardless how simple, must be fenced even if no moat is required. They have entire Home Depot-like supply centers in Germany that sell nothing but fencing materials. Almost every home is surrounded by some kind of fence.

Marshall joins chamber as office coordinator

Spencer Chamber Executive Director Sheriffa Jones and the board announced the hiring of Lexi Marshall as the new office coordinator.

Marshall, from Sheldon, is a graduate of Sheldon High School. She brings a background in office operations and customer service. For the past six years, Marshall has worked in medical offices, assisting patients and providers in every way possible. She is excited for this opportunity to be more involved in the community, and learn something new.


McCreary’s share new branding with Ambassadors

The Spencer Chamber Ambassadors visited The Dock on Tuesday to unveil the new brand for McCreary's Creative Catering and congratulate them on their feature on “America's Best Restaurants.” Cassie and Mark McCreary have been in the restaurant business for 30 years and decided it was time to rebrand all of their different ventures under one house of brands.

For more than 20 years, Terry Moyer and his friend Frank Polasek traveled from their homes in Michigan to northwest Iowa on a quest for something increasingly hard to find in their home state ― ring-necked pheasants on public land.

ACCIDENT

  • At 10 a.m., Oct. 26, Tanya Louwagie, 46, of Emmetaburg, lost control of her 2010 KIA, due to the heavy rain, and struck a utility pole near a private driveway, in the 3000 mile of U.S. Highway 71. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $4,000. No injuries were reported.

Southpark Mall’s Pet Costume event goes regional

A lone cat and 19 dogs competed for top honors Saturday after at Southpark Mall’s Annual Halloween Pet Costume Contest. Six of seven award winners came from outside of Spencer.

A total of $300 was raised for People for Pets through the contest.

MASKerade on Main Street

Ahead of the traditional Halloween celebration, Spencer Grand Avenue businesses opened their doors and goody bags for families to enjoy MASKerade on Main Street downtown Saturday. Children and parents alike donned costumes and walked the snowy sidewalks amidst the first snowfall of the fall.

A Spencer-area holiday staple, the Holiday Family Adoption Program allows generous families, businesses and groups to share the holiday spirit and bounty by giving gifts to more needy families.

There are five candidates seeking the Everly City Council seats. The responses to the Spencer Reporter Q&A were submitted by four of them. Despite multiple attempts to get a response from Roger “Lefty” Ginger, no information or photo was provided on his behalf.
