Complaints about an odor from an egg processing facility on the west side of town have been received by the city since last spring. Recently, the city has taken some enforcement action in an attempt to get the odor eliminated.

SIOUX CENTRAL — The Sioux Central FFA chapter in Sioux Rapids has been awarded $5,000 as part of the Grants for Growing program. The nationwide program, sponsored by Tractor Supply Company, provides grant funds to local FFA chapters to support the development or improvement of agricultural education projects that enhance the classroom experiences for students through chapter engagement activities.

EMMETSBURG — Iowa Lakes Community College effectively equips students in construction technology with practical skills for a promising career in the construction industry by providing them with ample opportunities for hands-on projects. The college's partnership with the city of Emmetsburg and the Emmetsburg Economic Development Corporation in constructing a duplex at Rockport Development is just one example of how these students can showcase their abilities in real-world settings.

Bishop Walker Nickless and the Sioux City Cathedral Parish are hosting a Blue Mass at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, the Feast of the Archangels — Sts. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. The date was selected for the Mass due to St. Michael’s patronage of law enforcement.

Republican presidential hopeful, Vivek Ramaswamy, is planning a campaign breakfast rally at 9:15 a.m., Friday, at Tweeters in Okoboji.

Friday, as part of the Spencer football team’s home opener with rival Webster City, the community was invited to come out and support Salute to Service Night, honoring those who serve locally and nationally. Those being honored included local law enforcement, active military and veterans.

BOOKED INTO CLAY COUNTY JAIL

Goldstar Amusements returns for a 12th year at the Clay County Fair, powered by SMU, Sept. 9-17, with an addition of several newly remodeled rides.

Aug. 30, the Spencer Police Department executed a search warrant at 502 Eighth St. SW, Apt. 5 in Spencer. During the search, cocaine, marijuana, mushrooms, THC concentrates, prescription pills and a firearm were located. As a result, 42-year-old Leon Banks, of Spencer, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Clay County Jail.

The Spencer Ambassadors visited Goodwill on Thursday afternoon to celebrate the business’ 100-year anniversary.
