Funeral services for Norma Jean Whalen, 84, of Spencer, will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 15, at Warner Chapel in Everly. Pastor Nicholas Hanges will officiate the service. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 14, at the funeral home in Everly. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Whalen passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Norma, the daughter of Henry and Mildred (Greder) Lietz, was born Jan. 11, 1941, in Odebolt. Her childhood years were spent in the Sac City area, where she attended school until moving to Laurens, where she graduated from Laurens High School in 1960. She then went to Iowa Lakes Community College.

Norma married Kenneth Walker in May 1962 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Webb. They later divorced. Norma married Ronald Whalen on Feb. 14, 1998. She worked at St. Luke Lutheran Home as a CNA for 23 years, until her retirement in 2015. She enjoyed computers, reading, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. She was also an Avon rep for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Michael; and a grandson, Dawson.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Robert Walker of Spencer, and Tom (CJ) Walker of Spencer; three grandchildren, Coire, Trenton and Gracie; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Janes of Albert City; one brother, Norman (Deanna) Leitz of Marathon; other relatives; and many friends.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
