Angi Nemmers, of Brandon, South Dakota, formerly of Spencer, passed away unexpectedly at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the young age of 57. A memorial service honoring Angi's life will be held at Occasions in Spencer on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, with lunch provided. Burial at Northlawn Cemetery will follow the service.

Angela Marie Nemmers was born Feb. 3, 1967, to Mary (Doocy) and Gene Nemmers in Spencer. She was lovingly welcomed home by her siblings, Mark, Marcia, Marty and Pat. The same love that has continued her whole life. This love, sometimes shown with poking fun, but always ended with laughter and a hug … eventually.

Mary and Gene were very active with Spencer Little League and a lot of Angi’s childhood memories were either at the ballpark or with families from the ballpark.

Angi graduated with the class of 1985 from Spencer High School. She later attended nursing school at Iowa Lakes Community College and dedicated the rest of her life to caring for others.

Angi wore her heart on her sleeve, this showed personally and professionally when caring for patients in operating rooms and speaking with families pre- and post-surgery. This compassion led her to a career as a hospice nurse where she could console and guide families with her comforting words and actions. She took her job very seriously and made sure families understood what was happening with their loved one. If anyone she knew was having surgery, she checked in weekly if not daily. Angi was always thinking of others.

Relationships were extremely important to Angi. She was connected to many people across the country and blessed them with her frequent messages and phone calls. Angi spent time with her friends and family as often as her schedule would allow. She loved spur of the moment road trips and weekend getaways flying solo or as the co-pilot. She looked forward to her almost monthly in-service with friends from work, catering for friends’ children’s weddings, attending concerts, floating in the pool/lake singing her own rendition of Journey’s greatest hits or boasting about her grandkids.

Angi worked hard at relationships and had many friends. The most important of all relationships was with her daughter, Melanie. That is, until her granddaughters were born. Nana loved to celebrate her girls; in person and to anyone she talked to. She rarely missed an event. Every Friday afternoon, she’d wait for one of the girls to text asking for a sleepover. She loved taking them to movies and concerts. Nana did the softball book for Grace and Natalie’s softball team and became the “Team Nana,” they didn’t even know her name. She was just “Nana.”

In all stages of life, Angi was a caregiver. She cared for everyone she met. She’d give advice, even when you didn’t want it, and then tell you again later when she thought you’d be ready to listen; even if you weren’t.

Gene and Mary welcomed Angi to eternal life. She joins them in watching over all of us as we live out the rest of our earthly lives.

Grateful for sharing the short time we had are: Angi’s daughter, Melanie, favorite son-in-law, Brian; her pride and joys, her granddaughters, Grace, Natalie and Piper; siblings, Mark (Julie), Marcia, Marty (Loree), and Pat; niece and nephews, Luke, Matt (Mandy), Alicia (Chris), Ryan (Brandon), Brady (Kathi), Zack (Victoria), Collin (Kristyn); and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
