David L. Frerichs

Service’s for David Lyle Frerichs, 78, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spencer. Visitation will be 1 1/2 hours before the service. Dave, son of John and Pearl Berends Frerichs, was born on July 31, 1946, in Le Mars, along with his identical twin brother, Darrell Ray. Dave always said he felt sorry for people who don’t have a twin. His childhood years were spent in several small communities in the northwest Iowa area. Graduating from Spencer High School in 1964. Afterward, he spent eight years in the military.
On Oct. 10, 1969, Dave was united in marriage to Teresa (Terry) Seaman in El Paso, Texas. Two amazing children were born to this union. Nicole (Nicci) and Jon.
After his honorable discharge from the army Dave drove truck in the Spencer area. Through the army and later his job, Dave was able to travel many places and always enjoyed his travels and the people he met.
Dave’s hobbies were playing pinochle and other card games, and hunting, but his passion was fishing. He was active with the youth group kids at Dayspring Assembly. He also helped youth with disabilities hunt at Special Youth Challenge. Until later his was helped to hunt through the program as a disabled veteran. Dave enjoyed life.
Dave had two events in his life he called his million-dollar experiences. One was his service in Vietnam. The second was his battle with leukemia. He said he wouldn’t trade either for a million dollars, but he wouldn’t do them again for a million dollars.
While in treatment at the Mayo Clinic for leukemia in 1990, Dave gave his heart to his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. He came to have a deep love for his Lord. During that time, he also made the decision to donate his body to the medical program there, where he was transferred following his death.
Dave went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Bob and Gloria Seaman, an infant sister, his brother Wayne, sister-in-law Judy Frerichs, brother-in-law Ray Stanley and brother-in-law Greg Seaman.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Terry of Spencer, daughter Nicci (Thomas) of Richmond Virginia, son Jon (Zohra) of Richmond Virginia, grandchildren Marcus, Meredith, Noah and Julianna, his twin brother Darrell (Alberta) of Niles Michigan, sister Lois of Shreveport, Louisiana, sister-in-law Carol of Peterson, sister-in-law Connie of Dickens, brother-in-law Jeff (Lisa) of Spencer and special life long friends Connie and Jim Dean of Spencer and many other family members and friends.
