Dennis Pike, beloved son, brother and uncle, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 24, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern Ave., in Ames.

Dennis was born on Dec. 15, 1969, in Ames. While still in high school, Dennis went to Germany through the foreign exchange program. He and his family also hosted two different students from Germany. He graduated from Ames High School in 1988, and Iowa State University in 1994 with a hotel and restaurant degree, he later obtained a master’s degree in business administration. Dennis lived in many different cities for his work as an IT specialist including, Orlando, Florida; San Antonio, Texas; Kansas City, Kansas; and finally Chicago.

Having lived in Chicago for the past several years, Dennis was active in the Chicago community, he contributed both his time and money to several organizations. He was an avid dart player and played in local leagues for several years. Though Dennis was an IT specialist, his real passion was for cooking. Even at an early age you could find Dennis in the kitchen “cooking” with pots and pans. In high school, Dennis entered a barbecue cook-off, which took him all the way to the Iowa State Fair. Dennis also had a passion for learning other languages, which included German, French and Spanish. He also enjoyed learning woodworking.

Dennis is survived by his father, Harold Pike; sister, Brenda Pike; brother, Curtis Pike and his wife, Jule; niece and nephew, Jordyn and Colton Pike; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Julie Pike; grandparents, Joseph “Russell” and Loucille Carpenter, and Clifford and Anna Pike.

Memorial contributions in Dennis’s name can be made to Food at First or Bethesda Food Pantry in Ames, or your local food bank.

Dennis will be greatly missed for his quick wit and sense of humor.
