Services for Douglas Dean Dykstra will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Doug, the son of Renza and Joyce (Smidt) Dykstra, was born Nov. 20, 1950, in Sibley. Doug graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull in 1968. He then attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, graduating in 1970 from the professional accounting program.

After college, Doug found his passion in sales, starting with the co-op in Sibley, Max Pasley out of Sioux Falls, KitchenAid out of Eagan, Minnesota, Lite Form out of Jackson, Minnesota, finally spending the last 17 years of his career as a sales consultant for Morton Buildings out of Spencer, retiring in 2014. Doug was very fortunate to earn and attend many sales trips throughout his tenure with Morton Buildings.

On Dec. 3, 1988, Doug was united in marriage to Carol Rosacker in Milford at the Union Memorial Church. They had just recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary.

Throughout Doug’s life, he enjoyed fishing, playing golf, making trips to the Wild Rose Casino, and watching Minnesota Twins baseball and any Iowa Hawkeyes sports.

Doug passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at his home in Spencer, at the age of 74. Preceded in death by his parents, in-laws and son-in-law, Patrick Doom.

Doug is survived by wife, Carol of Spencer; children, Leah Doom of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Erin (Brendan) Olson of Sioux Center; Nathan (Sarah) Dykstra of San Francisco, California; Dylan Dykstra of Spencer; and Ethan (Ashley) Dykstra of Urbandale; seven grandchildren with another one on the way; as well as many other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Iowa Heart Association.
