Kyle James Molgaard was born on March 9, 1976, to Carl and Barb (Witt) Molgaard in Primghar. He passed away on Sept. 7, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral services will take place Friday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at Sutherland Church of Christ in Sutherland. Burial will be in the Scandinavian Cemetery in Alta. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Kyle spent most of his life on the family farm just outside of Peterson, a place that deeply shaped who he was. From a young age, Kyle had a passion for farming, following in the footsteps of his Grandpa Pete. His love for the land and the animals, especially working with the cattle, grew with him, and he took great pride in learning the ins and outs of farm life. He enjoyed fixing machinery, figuring out how things worked, and often touching up paint on the tractors.

Kyle’s hardworking nature was evident in everything he did — he never put off until tomorrow what could be done today. When his parents opened Cargo Express, Kyle brought his talents to the kitchen, becoming a master pizza maker. He was dedicated to his many regulars, always making sure their favorite items were stocked and often sharing his signature humor with them. Ever the charmer, he was known for playfully proposing to a few of the older ladies in the coffee crowd.

Outside of his work, Kyle was a dedicated sports fan. He bled black and gold for his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes, and he was a passionate follower of the Indiana Fever, especially following the career of Caitlyn Clark. He was also a lifelong Chicago Bulls fan, reveling in the glory years of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Whether watching or texting about the latest game, Kyle’s enthusiasm for basketball was very evident.

Kyle had a big heart, always thinking of ways to brighten the lives of those around him. At Thanksgiving, he would deliver pies to friends and family, and he was known to show up with flowers and candy at the bank and insurance office, just to see people smile. He took joy in making others laugh and spreading kindness wherever he went.

Most of all, Kyle adored his niece and nephews. He cherished pushing them around in shoebox cars, chasing them with his trusty pliers in a playful, jokester fashion around the house and store, and making them laugh with his ornery yet loving spirit. His bond with them was truly special, and they were his pride and joy.

Kyle’s warmth, humor and genuine care for others will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, love for family and ability to bring smiles to everyone’s faces will forever remain in the hearts of his family, and friends.

Kyle is preceded in death by his mother, Barb Molgaard and his grandparents, Peter and Laura Molgaard, and Lester and Mayme Witt.

Kyle is survived by his father, Carl Molgaard; his brother, Kirk Molgaard; his sisters, Karalee Andreasen and Krista (Ryan) Box; his niece, Hayley (Kishor) Sapkota; and nephews, Reilly Andreasen, Jonathan Box, and Landon Box; as well as extended family and many cherished friends.

The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
