Sandyann Twetten (née Story) passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Oct. 5, 2024, after a brief, valiant struggle with heart disease.

Sandy was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, but spent most of her childhood in Chicago, where she attended Morgan Park High School. Even though her real love was dance, she became extremely successful as a classical pianist, performing with the Chicago Symphony at age 16. One of her dearest memories was playing weekly in Billy Graham’s choir. In 1955 she graduated in the sciences from Iowa State University, where she was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. At ISU, she met Jerald Twetten, the love of her life, whom she married in 1955. They raised their family in Spencer where Jerry became well known as the owner-designer of Twetten’s Interiors. Sandy was a high school biology teacher before children, later she worked in nutrition science, and in the ‘90s she joined Jerry at the store. In 2002 Sandy and Jerry built a beautiful home in Naples, Florida, where family and friends were always welcome. After Jerry’s death in 2020, Sandy moved to Brookfield, Wisconsin to live with her family.

Sandy had a huge heart and a strong Christian faith. She was a loving mother, energetic and fun-loving, who doted on her grandchildren, and in later years, on her many great-grandchildren. She could often be found reading them stories, singing songs or playing just the kind of silly games children love. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Sandy was the only child of Roy and Josephine Story.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Twetten.

She is survived by her children, David (Cindy) Twetten, Jane (Joe) Schwarz, and Walter (Ella) Twetten; her grandchildren Mary (Mark) Basola, Catherine (Mike) Dybicz, Thomas Twetten, Sarah (Alessandro) Martini, Mark Sievert, Matthew (Amanda) Sievert, Mary Katherine (Brian) Bland, Elizabeth Twetten, Walter Twetten, Margaret Twetten, Sandy (Drew) Hunter, Charlotte Twetten, Peter Twetten, Nicholas Twetten, and William Twetten; and her 23 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial is to be held at St. Mary Visitation in Elm Grove, Wisconsin, on Monday, Oct. 14, at 11 am, with a visitation preceding at 10 am. Please see BeckerRitter.com for further details.
