Funeral services for Maureen Ann (Thilges) Baker, 77, of Spencer, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Spencer. Rev. Tim Hogan will officiate the service. Visitation will take place beginning at 5 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8. Burial will beat 2 p.m., at Calvary Cemetery in Algona.

On Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, Maureen Ann (Thilges) Baker, beloved mother and grandmother passed away at home.

Lois Perry

Graveside services at Riverside Cemetery will be conducted for Lois (Warren) Perry at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 7, 2023.

Lois was born at home on June 5, 1920, in rural Spencer to Florence and Charles Warren. She attended a rural country school for eight years and graduated from Spencer High School in 1937. Lois was a secretary for Investors Syndicate for a short time, then she was a secretary for AAA (Agricultural Adjustment Administration).

Funeral services for Betsy Merrill, 72, Webb, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at Warner Chapel of Spencer. Rev. Don Andrews will officiate the service. Visitation will be one hour prior to then service. Burial will be at Garfield Cemetery in Webb at a later date. Merrill passed away at Thursday, July 27, 2023, at her home. Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.

Graveside services for Robert Handy, 85, of Spencer, formerly of Lost Island Lake, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Rev. Deb Mechler will officiate the service. Handy passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2023, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements.

Janice Bare

Services for Janice Jean Bare, 77, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Accura Healthcare of Milford, will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Primghar. Rev. Barb Dean will officiate the service. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar.

Michael Anderson

Memorial visitation for Michael Arthur Anderson, 67, of Spencer, from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery at a later date.

Mike was born Dec. 24, 1955, in Spencer to Arthur Anderson and Maureen (Grewell) Anderson. Mike passed away July 26, 2023, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer where he resided since 2013.

Gregory Reif

Gregory A. Reif passed away on July 29, 2023, in Spencer. Greg was born May 6, 1952, in Washington, Iowa, to William and Marjorie Reif. Greg was a graduate of Arnolds Park High School and was a machinist and hobby farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Gary. A private memorial service will be held in the Black Hills at a later date to be determined.

Marvin Rossiter

Marvin Carl Rossiter, 91, went home to his Lord on July 26, 2023. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, who remember him as a kind, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Marvin's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his faith, family and genuine kindness toward all who knew him.

Doris McPherson

Doris R. McPherson, 93, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away July 27, 2023. Doris was born on Oct. 23, 1929, in Estherville to Otto and Lucile (Trullinger) Rogers. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert McPherson, brothers Dale (wife Jean) Rogers and Gary (wife Rita) Rogers. Doris is survived by her daughter Cindy McPherson. No formal services planned. Memorials are suggested to Gateway Vista in Lincoln.

Darline Hughes

Funeral services for Darline Hughes, 95, of Spencer, formerly of Everly, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at Warner Funeral Home of Everly, Rev. Shurmsine McAlpine and Rev. Mike Eeten will co-officiate the service. Visitation will be conducted one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Darline passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Linda Ball

Linda Rae (Franseen) Ball was born in Red Oak on April 1, 1946, to Alden Ivar Franseen and Dorothy (Gustafson) Franseen. Her early years were spent in Laurens until moving to Spencer in 1956. She attended and graduated from Spencer High School in 1964. Following graduation, she attended LaJames Beauty School in Mason City and Spencer. She also worked as a car hop at the local Spencer Town and Country Drive-In where she met her future husband & love of her life, Jim Ball.

Gail Hansen

Gail Elizabeth Hansen, the daughter of William and Mercedes (Mayronne) Roberts was born Aug. 15, 1940, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her childhood years were spent in New Orleans where she attended and graduated from an all-girls Catholic High School. She then attended University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

A celebration of life for Charles “Chuck” Tielbur, 89, of Milford, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church, in Milford. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday at the church. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer following the service. Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 384 at the church following the service.

Funeral services for Violet “Vi” Reason, 98, of Spencer, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2023, at First Congregational Church, in Spencer. Rev. Sharon Britz will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., with family present, at the Warner Funeral Home. Reason passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023, at St. Luke Lutheran Home. Burial will be at North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer.

Services for Sharon Kay Poffinbarger, 85, will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Spencer. Elder Hans Nelson will officiate the service. Interment will be conducted at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Charlotte ‘Shy’ Pearson

 

Charlotte “Shy” Jean Pearson was born to Leslie and Helen Johnson in Spencer where she and her 13 brothers and sisters grew up.

Shy was united in marriage to Curtis Pearson on Nov. 8, 1942. In this union of marriage, they had three children. Deanna, Susanne and Carvell. Curt and Shy lived in Hartley their entire married life.
