Charles David Pletke, 89, of Waukee, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, and was received into the loving arms of Jesus.

Dr. Patricia "Patty" Schupfer, 68, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in Naperville, Illinois. A distinguished anesthesiologist with a passion for life, travel and human connection, Patty was known for her warmth, intelligence and vibrant free spirit.

Janice Ruth Mills, 85, of Owensboro, Kentucky, transitioned from her earthly dwelling to her heavenly home on Friday, March 7, 2025, at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Perry Mills.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 27, at the Okoboji Bible Conference grounds in Arnolds Park. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons, Jared, Derek, Tyler and Jay Carlos Mills; and former students, Jason Hempe and Jay Barker.

Michele Freeman, 60, of Milford, formerly of Spencer, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer.

Funeral services for Verdis Koehlmoos, 88, of Spencer, were conducted Monday, April 14, 2025, at Christ the King Lutheran Church of Spencer. Rev. Michael McGinley officiated the service. Burial will took place at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Koehlmoos passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Spencer Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christ the King Lutheran Church.

Our rock has passed. Our mom, Shirley Rae (Woodford) Parks passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Ruthven Care Center, she was 89 years old. Her last days were spent with her children surrounding her.

It is with great sorrow that we must announce that Douglas Jay Mays left this world on April 4, 2025, at the age of 97, in Mesa, Arizona. Those who knew him recall fondly his devotion to his family, goodness to his friends, and interest in wheels and wings. Douglas was born to Blanche DuBois Mays and Otis Mays on Aug. 3, 1927, in Greenville. He graduated from Spencer High School and attended North Dakota State University. He served in the Army from 1945-47.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. She passed away Monday, March 24, 2025, at her home.

Lucy Rhea Aschenbrenner was born Dec. 27, 1951, to Carl and Elsie (Almquist) Erickson in Fort Dodge. Her name was inspired by the very popular show, “I Love Lucy.” Lucy spent her early years on the family farm near Pomeroy, where she picked up her mom’s ability to make the best apple pie.

Funeral services for Glenn Albertson, 80, of Spencer, will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Warner Chapel in Everly. The Rev. Kevin Richter will conduct the service. Visitation will take place Friday, April 11, starting at 5 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. at the chapel in Everly. Burial will occur at a later date. Paul Wayne Scharnberg, 67, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away on Jan. 14, 2025. Born on April 26, 1957, in Spencer,, Paul was the son of Darrel Scharnberg and Marjorie Thorne, both of whom preceded him in death.

Mary Joan Nelson, 89, of Mount Pleasant, and formerly of Lakewood, Colorado, died on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Addington Place of Mount Pleasant, in Mount Pleasant.
