Funeral services for Jean Paulsen, 87, of Emmetsburg, formerly of Spencer, will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Rev. Peter Morlock will officiate the service. Visitation will be conducted beginning at 4 p.m., Thursday, at the church, with family present from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly. Paulsen passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, at Emmetsburg Care Center.

Per her wishes, there will be no funeral services for Mary Lundt, 94, of Spencer, who passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at Longhouse Residence in Spencer. Andrew Stanislaus Kondrath, 97, of Spirit Lake, passed away on Jan. 15, 2023, at Accura Healthcare of Milford. Services will be 10 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel in Fort Dodge. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m., Monday, at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Wesley Paul Vogel, 67, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away at his home on Dec. 9, 2022. He was born June 8, 1955, in Storm Lake to Roy E. and Janice E. (Chindlund) Vogel.

Larry Rex Letz, 86, of Waukee, formerly from Spencer, passed away Jan. 9, 2023.

Larry was born Nov. 30, 1936, in rural Dallas County to Donald and Mildred (White) Letz. He graduated from Earlham High School in 1954. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and served two years in Germany.

Services for John Burton Muetzel, 73, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at First English Lutheran Church, in Spencer. Rev. Paul Kaldahl will officiate the service. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

A celebration of life for Marion Bertsch, 89, of Spencer, will be conducted at a later date in Ashley, North Dakota. Visitation will be conducted one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services for Bernice Anna (Meyer) Back, 91, of Galesville, Wisconsin, formally of Spencer, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. Rev. Renae Behrends will officiate the service. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.

Funeral services for Bryan David Steven, 72, of Spencer, will be conducted from 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Visitation will be conducted one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be at a later date. Steven passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2022, at his residence.

On Jan. 2, 2023, Mary L. McBreen Newton, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and special friend to many, passed away at the age of 99.

Keith Calvin Klatt, 95, was born on Aug. 4, 1927, to Emil and Etta (Steffen) Klatt along with his twin brother, Kenneth. He attended country school near Royal, graduated from Rossie High School in 1945, and soon after joined the Navy where he and Kenneth served together during World War II. He was united in marriage to Crystal Dickeson in July 1949, and they became parents to three children: James, Timothy, Benita.

Miriam Ruth Bergen, 103, of Primghar and Spencer, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Sioux City.

Miriam was born in Chicago on Jan. 9, 1919, to Max and May (Leese) Liebermann. She graduated from Sullivan High School and attended Northwestern University.

Karolyn Sue “Kari” Vander Woude, daughter of James “Jim” and Mary (McPherson) Jeppesen, was born in Sibley on May 3, 1965. She spent her youth in Sanborn, where she attended Sanborn Community School, graduating with the class of 1983.

Following graduation, Kari continued her education at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, with an emphasis on criminal justice.
