Miller cards 37 in home opener

SPENCER — The greens were glimmering Tuesday at the Spencer Golf and Country Club, with the Tigers ready to face off with the Spirit Lake Indians in boys golf. Tiger No. 1 Kaden Miller put together the performance of the match, scoring a 37 to help lead Spencer past the Indians by 16 strokes. Miller carded three birdies in his first four holes to jumpstart his round. He would finish one over par.

Rebel girls finish second at Ridge View

HOLSTEIN — Sioux Central had a date with the track at Ridge View on Tuesday evening. The girls team competed in the Russ Kraai Relays in Holstein.

Rebels’ Casey earns medalist honors

SIOUX RAPIDS — The first home meet of the year for the Rebel girls golf team took place on Tuesday. The other schools in attendance were Emmetsburg and Alta-Aurelia, with the Warriors taking the top spot with 219 points. Emmetsburg was in second with a 239, with Sioux Central finishing in third with a 251.

Rebels set 800 sprint medley school record

SPIRIT LAKE — For the Sioux Central boys track team, they went to Spirit Lake on Tuesday. The Rebels put together a school record-breaking performance. Trevor Ehlers, Carter Boettcher, Ethan Mills and Greg Peterson set the mark in the 800 sprint medley with a time of 1:37.14. They would finish in second place, behind Spirit Lake, who clocked a 1:37.07 to win the event. Max Adams, Jack Christian, Boettcher and Mills won the contest in the 4x800-meter relay, clocking a time of 8:46.27.

Rebels lose home meet with E-Hawks

SIOUX RAPIDS — Sioux Central checked their first golf meets of the season off the list, hosting their first home meet on Tuesday against Emmetsburg. The E-Hawks would defeat the Rebels at Little Sioux Country 155 to 218, led by Josh Matheasen who received medalist honors with a 35. Runner-up medalist went to Grant Householder scoring a 39 for Emmetsburg. Boden Bright led Sioux Central shooting a 52. Grayson Hermstad carded a 53, Reid Anderson scored a 56 and Rayce Meyer with a 57.

Lakers sweep Dakota Wesleyan

The Iowa Lakes Community College softball team swiped 11 bases in their two game sweep over Dakota Wesleyan JV. The Lakers played two shortened games, winning 8-0 in game one and 14-6 in game two. Iowa Lakes is now 26-10 overall and 9-7 in conference play.

Tiger girls win Lynn Jolly Relays

CHEROKEE — The dominant Spencer girls track team got their first outdoor meet at Cherokee on Thursday. The Tigers took first place with a team score of 135, 38 points higher than second place Alta-Aurelia. Eleven different teams competed at the Lynn Jolley Relays.

CHEROKEE — The Tiger boys track team put on a clinic Thursday at Cherokee High School. Spencer would finish in second place behind Okoboji, but took first place in five events, while putting together six runner-up finishes as well.

Tigers win first meet at Cherokee

CHEROKEE — Spencer got their first golf match win of the season when they traveled to Cherokee on Thursday. Tyler Storey put together the best performance for the Tigers with his 39, earning runner-up medalist honors. Storey had seven pars to lead Spencer. Kaden Miller and Trevor Cooke both finished with 40s. Miller picked up four pars on his nine, while Cooke birdied hole 4, and scored a two on the short par 3. AJ Stanley rounded out the varsity scoring with a 42.

ILCC women go 4-1 over weekend

The Iowa Lakes Community College softball team put up 28 runs in five innings to sweep Ellsworth Community College. The Lakers were victorious in game one with a score of 11-1 in five innings and in game two 17-2 in five innings. Iowa Lakes is now 23-9 overall and 8-6 in conference.

Davis wins USAG Platinum State Champion in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY — Spencer senior Aubrie Davis competed at the United States of America Gymnastics meet in Sioux City from March 31 to April 2. Davis scored a combined number of 35.825 in four events to earn the Iowa USAG Platinum State Champion medal in gymnastics.

Through the years I’ve had the opportunity to fish with a lot of different anglers. Something that almost always caught my attention when I climbed into their boat was the number of fishing rods they had out. Some of the best anglers appeared to be some of the most basic anglers. They would only have a couple of rods out and rigged.

The first ever Bass Federation’s Student Angler Federation is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, on the Okoboji Chain of Lakes for the SAF Iowa State Championships.

According to SAF Youth Director Bob Harris, “I am anticipating around 50 boats consisting of two-youth partners per boat for this year’s championships based on youth who are already members. There will be teams from all over the state of Iowa in attendance.”

Rebels take runner-up at home invite

SIOUX RAPIDS — The Rebel boys got their season going with their home meet in Sioux Rapids on Monday. Sioux Central finished in second place behind MMCRU in the event. Greg Peterson led the Rebels, winning two individual events and two team competitions. Peterson took first in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 56.88 in the event. He would also win the 100-meter dash, cruising to an 11.30 time.
