Tigers win first meet at Cherokee

CHEROKEE — Spencer got their first golf match win of the season when they traveled to Cherokee on Thursday. Tyler Storey put together the best performance for the Tigers with his 39, earning runner-up medalist honors. Storey had seven pars to lead Spencer. Kaden Miller and Trevor Cooke both finished with 40s. Miller picked up four pars on his nine, while Cooke birdied hole 4, and scored a two on the short par 3. AJ Stanley rounded out the varsity scoring with a 42.

ILCC women go 4-1 over weekend

The Iowa Lakes Community College softball team put up 28 runs in five innings to sweep Ellsworth Community College. The Lakers were victorious in game one with a score of 11-1 in five innings and in game two 17-2 in five innings. Iowa Lakes is now 23-9 overall and 8-6 in conference.

Davis wins USAG Platinum State Champion in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY — Spencer senior Aubrie Davis competed at the United States of America Gymnastics meet in Sioux City from March 31 to April 2. Davis scored a combined number of 35.825 in four events to earn the Iowa USAG Platinum State Champion medal in gymnastics.

Through the years I’ve had the opportunity to fish with a lot of different anglers. Something that almost always caught my attention when I climbed into their boat was the number of fishing rods they had out. Some of the best anglers appeared to be some of the most basic anglers. They would only have a couple of rods out and rigged.

Outdoors: SAF Junior and High School Bass Fishing Iowa State Championships coming to the Okobojis

The first ever Bass Federation’s Student Angler Federation is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, on the Okoboji Chain of Lakes for the SAF Iowa State Championships.

According to SAF Youth Director Bob Harris, “I am anticipating around 50 boats consisting of two-youth partners per boat for this year’s championships based on youth who are already members. There will be teams from all over the state of Iowa in attendance.”

Rebels take runner-up at home invite

SIOUX RAPIDS — The Rebel boys got their season going with their home meet in Sioux Rapids on Monday. Sioux Central finished in second place behind MMCRU in the event. Greg Peterson led the Rebels, winning two individual events and two team competitions. Peterson took first in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 56.88 in the event. He would also win the 100-meter dash, cruising to an 11.30 time.

Tigers hang on to best Dodgers

SPENCER — Starting their season at Riverview Park Tennis Courts Monday was the Spencer Tigers girls tennis team. The girls hosted Fort Dodge, edging out the Dodgers to pick up their first meet win of the year. Spencer would grab the 5-4 victory in the doubles matches.

Spencer steamrolls SLPO 10-0

SPENCER — Neighboring Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji came to face off with the Spencer girls soccer team on Tuesday. Addison Hoben and Saddie Kahley lit up the scoreboard, combining for seven goals in a 10-0 victory for Spencer. Hoben ended the contest with a goal in the 77th minute.

Tigers dominate the courts Monday

FORT DODGE — Spencer took a trip Monday to face the Dodgers in Fort Dodge in boys tennis. The Tigers would dominate the meet, winning 8-1. As a team, Spencer improved to 2-0 on the season. The boys took five of six matches in singles, They took all three doubles matches for the win.

Tigers down SPLO 8-0

SPENCER — The Tigers came to play on Tuesday night against Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji. Owen Olson set the tone in the first minute, finding the back of the net to take an early 1-0 advantage. Iain MacRae then found Blake Kooker in the third minute to jump up 2-0. Setting the stage for a Tiger blowout, Spencer would defeat SLPO 8-0 for their first win of the season.

Spencer loses by 1 stroke

LIVERMORE — Spencer hit the road for a day at the links on Monday at Spring Valley Golf Course. The Tigers battled on the greens with Bishop Garrigan and Humboldt, finishing in second place. The team would shoot a 176, losing to Humboldt who scored a 175. Spencer senior Kaden Miller had the best performance, earning medalist honors after scoring the lowest round in the meet with a 40.

Rebels take 2nd on track

HOLSTEIN — The Sioux Central girls track team traveled to Holstein on Tuesday to compete in the Ridge View Relays. The Rebels would finish in second place, behind only Ridge View.

Lakers sweep No. 6 DMACC

The Iowa Lakes Community College softball team earned two big wins over the No. 6 DMACC Bears. The Lakers won 6-5 on a walk-off single in game one and then won game two 7-6. The Lakers are now 19-9 overall and 6-6 in conference.

Merchant, Heisinger win events for Spencer

MANKATO, Minn. — After waiting out the winter weather early Saturday morning, Spencer made its way to the Minnesota State Varsity Showcase. Competing against some of the best girls from Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Tiger girls would finish in third place at the showcase.
