Lakers sweep at Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH, Minn. — The Iowa Lakes Lakers volleyball squad traveled to Iowa Falls on Wednesday night and swept Ellsworth. In what should prove to be a Region 11 playoff position clinching win, Iowa Lakes swept the Panthers 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-22). The Lakers are now 3-2 in the ICCAC and 13-16 overall.

Coach Mike Turnbull was relieved to pick up the win.

ILCC men defeat Iowa Central, 1-0

Iowa Lakes hosted Iowa Central Wednesday, defeating the Tritons 1-0. It was a lone goal from freshman defender Matheus Loreto (above) giving the Lakers the victory. Loreto got on the end of a cross from Lewis Duncan and headed it home. Iowa Lakes is not 2-1 in conference play at 9-2 on the season. Gridiron Glance — Week 6

FORT DODGE (2-3, 0-1) at SPENCER (4-1, 1-0) — 7 p.m. Friday

Coming off a big homecoming victory over Denison-Schleswig, Spencer hosts their final home game of the regular season. Senior night takes place Friday at Dale Norton Field when the Tigers host the Fort Dodge Dodgers. Spencer now sits at 4-1 after winning four straight games. The Dodgers come in at 2-3 after getting manhandled by the Webster City Lynx last game.

Homecoming celebration

SPENCER — Enjoying a three-game winning streak, Spencer welcomed homecoming as the Tigers hosted the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs. Defense and greatly-timed offensive execution led the way for the Tigers, as they would dominate the ground game, and shutdown the Monarch attack for most of the game.

Tigers win one over Le Mars in Spencer Invite

SPENCER — The annual Spencer Volleyball Invitational took place over the weekend on Saturday. Spencer and others such as Humboldt, Mason City, West Lyon, Central Lyon and Le Mars. The Tigers first had the Central Lyon Lions, the girls would lose the first match 21-17. They would win the second match before losing the third and final match 15-10. Jada Piercy led the way in assists with 12, Jerra Merchant led the team in digs with nine.

Tigers lose thriller to Estherville on Thursday

Before having their Spencer Invite on Saturday, the Tigers had the Estherville Lincoln-Central Midgets on Thursday. The girls started out dominant in the first set defeating Estherville, 25-12. The Midgets would battle back in the second set but Spencer would still prevail winning 25-21.

Tiger girls finish in 2nd at Sioux Center, boys 6th

SIOUX CENTER — On Thursday, the Spencer girls and boys cross-country team traveled to Sioux Center to compete against many different schools. For the girls they got started running first at the competition. Finishing in first place was Madison Brouwer from Sibley-Ocheyedan, who clocked a time of 18:21.39.

Sioux Central downed by Raptors, 29-15

RIDGE VIEW — After defeating the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals on Sept. 16, Sioux Central had to hit the road and face the Ridge View Raptors. Both teams had won two of their last three games and they both sat at 2-2 on the young season.

Lakers defeat Ellsworth, 476-444

ACKLEY — The Lakers traveled to Ackley Saturday for an ICCAC Trap Shoot versus Ellsworth. The Lakers improved their record to two wins and one loss in the Western Division of the ICCAC Conference. The Lakers’ 476x500 was 11 targets better than last Saturday against NCC. The Iowa Lakes top 5 team was comprised of Wyatt Schwenker 96, Logan Studer 95, Hunter Thilges 95, Chase Young 95 and Mackenzie Schnetzer 95.

Pioneers suffer loss on homecoming night

MILFORD — Okoboji fell behind early and could never quite find its footing in a loss to Unity Christian on homecoming night in Milford. The Knights jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead in a 42-6 win over the Pioneers on Friday, Sept. 23.

Huckfelt to compete at Night of Conflict

SIOUX CITY — Spencer’s own Olivia Huckfelt, who’s very good at softball is even better at something else. She’s a great wrestler, being an IWCOA Girls State Champion last year and the No. 1 ranked women’s wrestler in the state at 235 pounds. Huckfelt defeated her opponent last year to win the state championship. Savanah Sistad, from Creston, is the second-ranked wrestler in the state.

Gridiron Glance — Week 5

DENISON-SCHLESWIG (2-2, 0-0) at SPENCER (3-1, 0-0) — 7 p.m. Friday

Spencer looks to extend their winning streak to four games on Friday when they host their homecoming opponent the Monarchs. After dominating Sioux Center 29-7 last week, the Tigers will be back on the prowl. Denison takes the field after steamrolling Council Bluffs Jefferson 41-0 last Friday night.

Snapping a skid: Lakers take down Northeast

The Iowa Lakes Lakers volleyball squad defeated the Northeast Hawks on Wednesday night in front of a home crowd, 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 20-25 and 25-16). The Lakers are now 12-16 overall, 2-2 in the ICCAC, and move into a three way tie in third place in the conference/region.

Rebel boys take top spot in Sanborn, girls take 4th

SANBORN — The Sioux Central Rebels cross-country team traveled to Sanborn Golf and Country Club to compete in the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Invite on Monday night. For the boys it was a very successful night finishing in first place with a score of 59. Led by a sixth place finish by Brayden Kramber who ran a time of 19:07.83. Leighton Sippel also finished in the top 10 with a ninth place finish. Clocking a time of 19:21.27. Joshua Hoffman finished in 13th place with a time of 20:19.85.

Rebels lose close match to Cougars

SIOUX RAPIDS — On Tuesday, the Sioux Central Rebels hosted the Manson-Northwest Webster Cougars for their annual pink out event for breast cancer awareness. The school has a guest speaker from local hospitals and raise money for them. Plus the team gets to suit up in pink jerseys for the game. This was a total battle between both schools. Sioux Central fell behind early 8-1 to the Cougars. Manson would then coast to a 20-9 lead before taking the first set over Sioux Central 25-13.
