Tigers remain game out of Lakes lead

Spencer went 1-1 in Lakes Conference competition this week ahead of the team’s home tournament Friday and Saturday. The Tigers fell to league leader Estherville Monday on the road before returning home Wednesday to rout a young Cherokee squad, ending the game early with no outs in the bottom of the third inning.

Tough matchups: Tigers drop pair to Lakes top teams

Spencer would fall to 11-7 (2-6) on the season, after dropping a pair to two of the Lakes Conference heirarchy. They are currently fourth in the conference standings behind Estherville, Storm Lake and Cherokee. Spencer will travel to Carroll Kuemper Saturday for tournament action beginning at noon against the Ridge View Raptors.

Rebels take care of Twin Lakes foe Raiders

SIOUX CENTRAL — Sioux Central improved to 12-10 (4-2) with the two victories this week. The Rebels will travel to Okoboji to face the Pioneers, Saturday, at the Okoboji Softball Tournament, starting at 10 a.m.

The Boys are back in Town

SPENCER — Friday was a special evening for baseball in Spencer. Not only was conference rival Storm Lake Tornadoes in town, but it was also the 25th anniversary celebration of the 1997 Tiger State Championship baseball team.

Pitcher Chad Susie, catcher Chad Huckfelt and teammates Brad Hartzell, Matt Stevenson, Craig Bussel, Luke Jorgenson, Clayton Christensen, Brent Meyer, Zach Neppel and Bryan Lawson were all in attendance to celebrate their accomplishment.

Rebels fall in 2 of 3 over weekend

Sioux Central’s baseball squad fell to 11-6 (5-3) on the season after dropping two of three contests to close out last week. The Rebels will look to get back on track this week, they host Newell-Fonda in a big Twin Lakes Conference matchup Thursday at Peterson Brooke Memorial field at 5:30 p.m.

 

Sioux Central wins 2 of 3 last week

ALTA — Sioux Central’s offense has been contagious throughout the whole team lately, the Rebels had already plated 29 runs total in the two games earlier in the week, they’re offensive momentum didn’t stop, scoring 14 runs in four innings to roll the Alta-Aurelia Warriors 14-1, Wednesday.

The team collected 11 hits, including three by Preslie Peterson, and two by Morgan Christian, Kendra Casey and Bradi Krager. Christian also added a home run in the big victory.

Tigers extend winning streak to 8

EMMETSBURG — The Tigers improve to 14-5 (4-1) on their season, they will host the Cherokee Washington Braves Wednesday at Spencer Senior High School. The Tiger softball team has found their stride offensively, lately they have been mashing the ball, Thursday they traveled to Emmetsburg and their trend continued, racking up 21 hits in the contest and dominating the E-Hawks 13-1, to improve to 13-5 on the season.

Unified Bocce Team takes silver at USA Games

ORLANDO — Spencer was able to send a few athletes earlier this month to the USA Special Olympic games in Orlando, Florida. They would send track athlete Patrick Smith, and a Unified Bocce Team to compete in the games, the team even got a chance to see the wonders of Florida with a one day trip to Disney World.

3 Tigers named to all-state teams

SPENCER — Iowa all-state soccer teams were recently named, three Spencer Tiger athletes were recognized with one of the most prestigious honors as a high school athlete.

For the girls they had two honored, Alexa Johnson received first team honors and Addison Hoben received second team honors.

Laker softball signs Swiggum

Iowa Lakes Community College head softball coach Katie King, announced the signing of Sydnee Swiggum to the 2022-23 recruiting class. She is the daughter of Eric and Christine Swiggum and is a graduate of Mt. Horeb High School in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin.

Tigers blanked by Tornadoes

SPENCER — After defeating Spirit Lake Wednesday, Spencer looked to extend its winning streak against Lakes Conference co-leader, the Storm Lake Tornadoes, Friday.

After allowing a run to cross, the Tigers surrendered three more runs on a costly fielding error in the first put the Tigers in a 4-0 hole which would prove to be the final score.

Tigers steamroll Wolfpack, Indians

Spencer improved to 10-4 (2-3) with a pair of two games which they ended early against Lakes Conference opponents, Western Christian and Spirit Lake this week.

 

Spencer picks up 2 conference wins

Spencer’s softball program picked up a pair of Lakes victories with a Monday night road win at Western Christian before returning home to best Spirit Lake Wednesday.

 

HULL — Spencer traveled to Western Christian Monday riding a four-game winning streak, they were looking to extend that against the 3-6 Wolfpack. The girls were all about the long ball in the game, hitting three of them to be exact. Izzy Pingel, Jada Piercy and Olivia Huckfelt all ripped one over the fence.

Rebels drop close one to E-Hawks

EMMETSBURG — The Sioux Central boys baseball team hit the road again Monday, traveling to face off against Emmetsburg. The heavily contested game remained scoreless through four innings, until E-Hawk catcher Keaton Duhn smacked a two-run shot to put Emmetsburg in front. Sioux Central responded with one of its own in the top of the sixth, but Emmetsburg would match that, holding on for win 3-1 over the Rebels.

EMMETSBURG — Sioux Central would improve to 8-9 (1-2) with the two victories on the week, picking up their first conference win of the season against Emmetsburg.

Bulls Eyes trap team shoots at state

The GTRA/Spencer Bulls Eyes trap team athletes spent all spring shooting in challenging weather, so why would they expect anything else during the state shoot? Rookie and intermediate athletes were scheduled to begin shooting in Flight 4 about 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 8. A two-hour rain delay pushed the start time back. After the delay the temperature was pleasant and there was a slight breeze.
