Tigers win 4 of 5 to finish week

SPENCER — The Tiger girls softball team played five games from Thursday to Saturday, first up was North Union, the Tigers only amassed four hits all game against the Warriors. Beth Strueber would lead North Union to a 4-2 victory, hitting a home run and having all four runs batted in the game.

Rebels win 1 of 2 at South O’Brien

PAULLINA — Sioux Central traveled to South O’Brien on Saturday to compete in their softball tournament, the Rebels had to face the Ridgeview Raptors to get it started. The game was filled with zeros in the first three innings, until the Raptors added three runs in the fourth, and three more in the fifth, that would be the difference in the game, as Sioux Central would lose 6-0.

Rebels thump Wolverines

WEST BEND — Sioux Central traveled to face the winless Wolverines Friday, looking to pick up their 10th victory on the season, the Rebels did just that, whacking West-Bend Mallard 9-1, behind a six-run second inning, and seven costly errors from the Wolverines. Ethan Mills led the way with three hits including a double, also stealing three bases. Peyton Otto and Konnor McKeever also had multi-hit efforts as well for Sioux Central.

Finding the net

SPENCER — Over the years, the Spencer Tigers have had their fair share of outstanding high school athletes. Now Spencer graduate Alexa Johnson has made a serious impact on her teams she’s been apart of, she prides herself on being someone who is so nice and humble, but will flip the competitive switch in the blink of an eye. Whether on the field, or the basketball court.

Tigers dominated by Estherville

SPENCER — Estherville Lincoln-Central came to town Monday for a showdown on the diamond against the Spencer Tigers. The Midgets got out to a lead early, and never looked back, dominating Spencer 13-1.

Tigers throttle Braves after loss Monday

SPENCER — The Tigers battled the Midgets and Braves during the week, first up was Estherville on Monday, the game started off with an eruption from the Spencer crowd, the Midgets laid down a bunt to lead off the game, Tiger third baseman Olivia Huckfelt grabbed the bunt on a knee and threw the runner out at first.

Rebels win 6th game in a row

SIOUX CENTRAL — Monday, the Sioux Central Rebels were back at home, hosting the Graettinger-Terril Titans. The Rebels demonstrated they meant business, throttling the Titans 19-0, producing seven runs in the second inning, and 11 in the third inning.

Tigers win twice, improve to 7-2 on season

The Spencer baseball team picked up two wins to end the week Thursday and Friday. The Tigers would face the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears first, before traveling to Sioux Center to face the Warriors.

 

SPENCER — The Tigers started the game with Bishop Garrigan by putting up eight runs in the second inning, to jump-start a 13-2 throttling of the Golden Bears Thursday.

Pitching a shutout: Tigers drop Golden Bear, Warriors

The Spencer girls softball team picked up two wins to end a week of games, hosting Bishop Garrigan Thursday, before traveling to Sioux Center on Friday. The Tigers would not allow a run in either game, dominating both teams.

 

SPENCER — Thursday, against Bishop Garrigan, the Tigers came out on all cylinders, scoring six runs in the first inning including a home run from Izzy Pingel, adding three more in the fourth, ending up winning 10-0.

Rebels dominate Titans, 24-9

LAKE CITY — The Sioux Central Rebels are off to a hot start, sitting at a 6-2. Sioux Central had to travel to South Central Calhoun to face the Titans, Friday, in a back-and-forth battle. Heading into the sixth inning, the Rebels trailed 8-6, before exploding for 18 runs in the inning, blowing the game wide open for a 24-9 win.

Spencer 14U Tigers win Slugfest tournament

SPENCER — The 13th annual slugfest tournament took place in Spencer over the weekend, 46 different teams came out to Pederson Park across three different age groups in baseball and softball, played on 11 different fields, each team was guaranteed three games in the tournament.

Overtime heartbreak

DES MOINES — After defeating Bishop Heelan last week to advance to the boys state soccer tournament, the Tigers earned a shot Wednesday at No. 1 seed Pella Dutch in 2A quarterfinal play. Leading 1-0 heading into the second half, Spencer would surrender the equalizing goal to Isaac Semini with 22 minutes to play. The score would remain knotted to end regulation.

Rebels tops Manson 5-1

MANSON — The Sioux Central Rebels, looking to get back to improve on its 2-2 mark, traveled to Manson Northwest Webster Tuesday to face the Cougars. The Rebels produced five runs on six hits, drawing six walks in the contest; and junior Carter Boettcher dominated for Sioux Central, throwing 6 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and just one run, in the victory over the Cougars, 5-1.

Tennis squad claims 4th at state

DES MOINES — Spencer took on three-time defending state champion Cedar Rapids Xavier in the boys state team tennis tournament Tuesday. The Tigers would lose in five straight matches against the Saints to drop the match 5-0. Spencer would then face Wahlert in the consolation for third place, Spencer would also drop this match 5-4.

Tigers fall fast in loss to Tornadoes

STORM LAKE — The Tigers traveled to Storm Lake Wednesday for a diamond face-off against the Tornadoes. Spencer has gotten off to a fast start with a 5-1 record on the young season, but the Tigers fell behind early, allowing seven runs in the first two innings, digging a hole they never could climb back out of. Spencer would outscore Storm Lake 4-1 after the second inning, but lose, 8-5.

Heartbreaking loss

DES MOINES — Cownie Sports Complex in Des Moines hosted the multi-day Iowa Girls Class 2A Soccer 2A Quarterfinal Tuesday. The No. 4 seed Tigers would meet the a senior heavy No. 5 Cedar Rapids Xavier Saints. Spencer’s stingy defense allowed a rare three-goal game to the Xavier squad and the team’s normally potent offense found itself in check in the 3-1 season ending loss.
