Spencer girls compete in Regionals

SPENCER — On Wednesday, Spencer awoke early to compete in the IGHASU 1A Regional Tennis Tournament. Fortunately, it was at Riverview Tennis Courts, so the commute wasn’t too much. Spencer would not be successful in their attempt to send an individual to the state.

Tigers clog up Dutch goal in 10-0 win

SPENCER — It was pink out at the Spencer Soccer Complex on Monday night when visiting MOC-Floyd Valley came to town. The team shut down the Dutchmen all night long, ending the game 10-0 with two minutes left in the second half.

“It was a good outcome, but we need to be a little more efficient on offense,” head coach John Hansel said. “It sounds weird to say that when you score 10 goals, but we had 30 plus shots at half and only four goals.”

Spencer girls win Lakes Conference tournament

OKOBOJI — Monday was the day for the 2023 girls Lakes Conference tournament at Okoboji View Golf Course. The 18-hole meet took place in the morning, with Spencer taking the crown. The girls racked up a team score of 352, 48 strokes ahead of second-place Cherokee and Estherville Lincoln-Central, who tied at 400.

Tigers win home meet on Senior Night

SPENCER — On Monday, the Spencer boys hosted their first meet this season at Dale Norton Field. Spencer defended their turf, edging out Cherokee by three points to win the meet. The team scored 136 points on the day. The team hosted its senior night as well.

Tigers thump Dutchmen 7-0

ORANGE CITY — It wasn’t the Netherlands by any means when the Tigers traveled to face the Dutchmen on Monday in Orange City. Spencer jumped on MOC-Floyd Valley, scoring at 11 seconds in the contest. Camden Mosher found Owen Olson for the super-fast score. The quick goal started a trend of goals, resulting in a 7-0 victory for the Tigers, their 11th straight.

Tigers win Lakes Conference Tournament, advance to Districts

SPENCER — The Spencer boys golf team stepped up to the challenge on Tuesday for sectional play at the Spencer Golf and Country Club. The guys had a long battle with MOC-Floyd Valley and finished second to advance to the district meet on Monday, May 15.

Thomsen to cheer at Northwestern

Madison Thomsen, a cheerleader and golfer for the Rebels, decided that she would attend Northwestern University in Orange City to continue her cheer career. Rebel girls dominate home meet

SIOUX RAPIDS — It was senior night for the Rebels on Monday at Sioux Central High School. The girls sent the fans home happy with a meet win, scoring 135 team points in the win. The track meet would be cut a little short due to serious lightning, canceling some of the final events.

SIOUX RAPIDS — It was senior night for the Rebels on Monday at Sioux Central High School. The track meet would be cut a little short due to the weather, though. But that didn’t stop the Rebels from winning the meet, edging out Newell-Fonda by three points to win their home invite.

7 Laker softball players make All-Region teams

Iowa Lakes Community College softball team had seven student-athletes that were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division II Softball All-Region teams.

Spencer track part of record-setting Howard Wood Relays

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Over the weekend, the Spencer Track teams traveled to South Dakota to compete in the Howard Wood Relays. The event ended up being a record-setting weekend. Thirty-two meet records were broken during the meet. It was the most records ever set in one Howard Wood Dakota Relay meet, which was first held 100 years ago in 1923.

Unthinkable dominance: 11 straight Lakes titles for Tiger girls

ESTHERVILLE — It’s truly a testament to a program that can consistently continue its excellence year in and year out. The Tiger girls track team has shown for a while now that they are the team to beat in the Lakes Conference, and that still hasn’t changed. The girls won their 11th consecutive conference title on Thursday in Estherville. The team scored 122 total points in the victory.

Tigers down Tornadoes 5-4

SPENCER — The Spencer girls tennis team battled conference foe Storm Lake on Thursday. The team would successfully grab the win, defeating the Tornadoes 5-4 for the victory.

"We played a lot of JV players on varsity singles, and I’m proud of them for how they performed in the win,” head coach Bob Schlaeger said. “It was good to see them grab the victory.”

Matthiesen, Hoben each have pair of goals

WAVERLY — Spencer traveled to Waverly Shell-Rock to compete in a tournament on Saturday. The girls picked up one win and one loss on the day, losing 2-1 to Bondurant-Farrar and defeating Clear Creek Amana 7-0.

Tiger girls golf crowned conference champs

SPENCER — The Spencer girls golf team hosted Estherville Lincoln-Central and Cherokee with one goal in mind on Thursday, winning the Lakes Conference championship. The team was successful, winning the conference matchup by 26 strokes. Spencer scored 188, the Braves had 214 and the Midgets scored 215 in the match.

Spencer sets 4x200 school record

ESTHERVILLE — The Spencer boys track team competed in the Lakes Conference track meet on Thursday night. The team would finish in second place, scoring 119.5 team points. Spirit Lake took the top spot with 163 points. The Tigers might not have won the meet, but they had a lot of personal best performances.
