Season opening rout: Tigers explode on offense

SPENCER — The Spencer Tiger girls softball team kicked off its 2022 campaign Tuesday at home against the Okoboji Pioneers. Spencer put on an offensive display, dominating the opposition 13-1, behind a four run first and second inning, followed by a five run third inning to end the contest.

Tigers take on state

DES MOINES — Spencer boys and girls competed on 14 different events at the state competitions over the weekend. For the girls, it was a sixth place team finish, putting together one of the best performances for Spencer to date with 32 points. Including a top three finish in distance medley with a time of 4:12.35, A top five finish in the shuttle hurdle, the group of Maddie Morony, Corinne Stave, Aliza Edwards and Jerra Merchant put in a time of 1:06.43.

DENISON — Spencer and Sioux Central competed in their regional competitions on Wednesday, sending one golfer each from their schools to the state golf tournament this Thursday and Friday.

Onto Des Moines: Tigers advance to team state semifinals

CARROLL — The Tiger boys tennis squad has been on another level this season. Wednesday they had to travel to Carroll Kuemper to face the Knights. They would have to face the winner of Estherville and Denison if they advanced for chance to reach the state semifinals. Spencer dominated Carrol winning the match 5-0, advancing to the next round of the competition.

Spencer girls host Indians to begin region play

SPENCER — After a 13-3 season, the Spencer Tiger girls soccer team will host Spirit Lake Tuesday at Spencer Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 6 p.m., with the inning advancing to the regional final in Spencer Thursday at the same time.

Schroeder, Berends take on state

IOWA CITY — After advancing through regionals earlier this month, the No. 1 girls double tennis group from Spencer is taking on the 1A state tournament in Iowa City this weekend. The team of Kinsey Schroeder and Haley Berends will compete to become state champions of Iowa, the competition will be taking place this Friday and Saturday, at the University of Iowa tennis complex.
